Hi there,
Hope you are doing well.
I am sorry to say but with 72.67 percentile, you have not even cleared the cutoff for JEE Mains, so you can't even sit for the counselling and you are dreaming of the second best NIT in India.
Hope it would help.
Thank You

Hello aspirant,

With the rank of 67299 you will not be able to get any branch in NIT surathkal in any of the rounds as according to the previous years cutoff one needs to have a very good rank to get into this institution . Also according to me it is very hard for you to get any NIT and if by chance you got a seat than it would be in a lower branch as the competition is very tough and every one wants to get into this institutions.

Admission also depends on various factors such as category, home state quota, number of students applied, etc.

You can also go through the last year cutoff for a better understanding.

Hope this helps.

If any queries feel free to ask.

All the best.

Regards.

Dear Aspirant, hope you are doing well. EWS is newly introduced category so nothing can be predicted with it's rank. You can check your chances by comparing your common rank list with previous years cutoffs so to get a general idea. http://engineering.careers360.com/articles/jee-main-cutoff. Hope it helps!! Good luck!!

In NIT Surathkal the lowermost ranked branch is Metallurgical and Materials Engineering or Mining Engineering.

In order to get a seat in it, one must have a rank around 4000 in JEE Main in SC Category.

With the rank of 21370 there is negligible chance for you to be allotted NIT Surathkal.

You can try other lower NITs or other private colleges.

Feel free to comment if you have any further query.

Hi,

Short answer: Yes. If you are getting mining/Meta at NITK, or any B.Tech program for that matter, grab it with both hands.

Long answer:

I will infer from the wording of your question that you have no particular interest in mining/meta.

Practically speaking, after your entrance exams, you don't really know much about any branch. I cannot speak for Mining, but the Meta course at least is quite different compared to what you might expect. The only knowledge you have of this branch is (I assume) from the Metallurgy chapter which you had to study for your boards. The branch is quite different. Its full name is actually Metallurgy and Materials Sciences and focuses more on materials than metallurgy. For example, one of the courses which seems very interesting to me in the second year syllabus is the course on X-Ray Crystallography-essentially bouncing X-Rays of materials to figure out what they look like inside. Just try the branch. I'm sure you will like it.

If you don't like your branch, here's what you can do:

Mining especially has a low workload. Meta has an average number of hours per week-some sems have more and some less (for example, 3rd sem has 21 hours/week while 4th sem has 35 hrs/week). Since you are interested in some other branch, you can use this free time to pursue your interest in it by means of online courses or the like.

Also, NITK is a great college. You will get opportunities here which you will not get anywhere else. Placements for all branches are good-for example, one Meta student got a 25lpa package this year. You can get jobs in ISRO and DRDO as a meta student. If none of this sounds appealing, you can always go for an MBA after you graduate.

Hello Dear

Since the cuttoff for the GEN-EWS category in the JEE mains entrance exam this year was around to 78.21 and your rank is somewhat lagging with that , so with this range of rank you can't be able to take the NIT zone but anyways you can still try the other government engineering institutes located at your respective state during the commencement of counselling.

All the best

Hello dear
Yes you have a fair chance to get nit surathkal.
You can get chemical ; civil ; mettalergicul and materials ; mining engineering easily .
You may also get Mechanical engineering; information technology engineering also depending upon the number of seats left and other students preferences.
You can see last year cut offs and have an idea about it :

Hello  Patkhedhkar,

I am here to help you with your query.

Obviously well known university is BIRLA INSTITUTE.

Doing any branch over their fetches you not only perfect placements but also well known opportunities which paves way for your bright future .

Without a second thought ,go for BITS Pilani EEE rather than opting for NIT Surathkal.

Good luck

For any kind of queries do comment below..

Dear Aspirant, hope you are doing well. According to previous year's trends and cutoffs, at this category rank it is not possible to get into NIT Surathkal. You can get lower ranked NITS like Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Hazratbal, Hamirpur. Hope it helps!! Good luck!!
