Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Entrance Exams
1. IIT JEE (Joint Entrance Examination)
A national level examination conducted at the UG level to select top-performing candidates into the best engineering institutes in the country. The exam is conducted in two phases- JEE Main and JEE Advanced, of which the former is the first elimination round. Students who clear the Main round are eligible to take the JEE Advanced examination, the final step to their selection in IITs. However, students qualifying JEE Main with the cutoff rank are eligible for admissions into various NITs and IIITs.
A university-specific entrance examination which is conducted at both the UG and PG level for admission into KIIT Deemed to be University. The examination is conducted in online mode, usually in April.
Another college-specific entrance examination, BITSAT is conducted by BITS Pilani, one of the country’s top private colleges, for admissions to its UG programmes. The examination is computer-based, usually conducted in May.
Conducted by Vellore Institute of Technology, the examination grants admissions to this prestigious institute’s various UG engineering programmes. Conducted every year in April in online mode, the examinees are selected based on marks and then offered admission in either of the two campuses in Vellore and Chennai.
A national-level exam for PG engineering candidates, this examination is conducted jointly every year by IISc (Indian Institute of Science) and seven IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology). A computer-based test, this examination is open to students who are studying in 3rd or higher years of any UG programme or have completed a degree in the Science, Technology, Architecture, Commerce or Arts fields.
