Indian maritime university , Kolkata campus have the required decent infrastructure for a maritime institute. The institute provides the cadets with quality equipments that helps the cadets to have an understanding about their possible working conditions ,and to mention , the institute have one of the largest workshop among all the maritime institutes in india. facilities like Simulation lab , hydraulic lab, electronic lab with equipments made of latest technologies and are understandable for the cadets. Other basic facilities such as library , swimming pool ,auditorium , and medical dispensary , ground are also present makes a good impression on the institute. The management promotes sports and other physical activities to ensure the physical fitness of all the cadets and is a part of their training. Cadets have the access to wifi all the time both inside their hostel and in the academic buildings. From my personal experience the institute does have and provide all the conditions and chances for developing and improving our engineering skills and survival skills during the 4 year course
As marine engineering is one of the most toughest degree in india, it does required good teaching skills. Imu kolkata have a great team of professors and instructors in the campus . Most of the faculties are well experienced ex marine engineers ( especially ex chief engineers, chief surveyors , ETOs etc)
Placement is the main highlight of IMU KOLKATA CAMPUS. Even in the toughest time such as current situations , around 90 to 95 percent cadets per batch are placed in the top companies in the shipping industry. About half of the batch will get placed in their 3rd year and about 98 percent by the end of 4th year
The value for money of an institute is decided o the basis of infrastructure, facilities, academics, and mainly placement. By considering these factors in the institute , it is surely a value for money as we are assured with job after completion of degree which is most rare in india
The cadets surely have a good campus life in the 4 years . Events like tempest , lithosphere, freshers party, marathon, and etc makes the fresher cadets to have fun experience...and as the institute is located in the city of Kolkata which gives the advantages to the cadets to explore the city during their city leaves.
The infrastructure is moderate as the college is old. But it is adequate to have a fruitful experience. It has playground and two academic buildings old and new , it also has a good library. The hostels are spacious and good.
The academics is top notch as there are many officer faculties and the workshop is very big and has all the main equipments and machineries. The study hours are adequately divided and it's really balanced.
The placement is also very good as the college holds it's vast legacy and a great alumni network. The placement cell is really good and it works relentlessly to keep the students informed of placement opportunities
Totally value for money sometimes infrastructure might seem less but other aspects are really really great
Campus life goes very hectic at first because coping up with 85% attendance and pt training is tiring. But with that time management comes in play and you get used to it.
Infrastructure is good but needs to be updated over time. Environment around the campus is good and one best in the eastern India especially for marine engineering students. Students need to be committed to their course for better understanding.
Academic part is good you will be helped always by professors. They will give me best suited advice accordingly and they will allow you be the best version of you could become . Studying here talks best out of you
Around 90 to 95% are placed for the last 4 years record and the alumni network is strong and advanced develop good connections throughout the placement cell and all it would give best suited result over time.
????
The infrastructure provided are quite good starting from fully air conditioned classrooms with smartboards to having a giant 2-stroke marine diesel engine in the workshop for better learning of the cadets.
The teachers are helpful and they provide every essential materials to the students to make them pass the semesters. There are really very good and knowledgeable teachers in the campus.Even the workshop instructors are very enthusiastic in their approach.
Placements overall is around 85-90%.Every year giant shipping companies like Fleet,NYK,PB,MSC,TORM do visit the college to take a large number of students from our campus. So according to me it is pretty decent compared to other colleges.
I consider it strongly value for money. As per the current market scenario it's very difficult to get a job and still this institution atleast assured you with a 85% placement record atleast and the equipments provided along with the quality of classrooms ,the price is justifiable!
Campus life is pretty decent but the condition of the hostels are not up to the mark.Sports are available along with an olympic size swimming pool.A campus full of greenery .The only issue is that when it rains it gets flooded easily..
In our time(batch of 2018) IMU kolkata was the best campus of marine engineering M.Tech. In our generation, we experienced good hostel facility, large playground, basketball court, mechanical and marine workshop. As a M.Tech student I got a chance to research in marine workshop in my final year.
Academic of IMU kolkata was always very good. Most of faculty members were passouts of our college. So they taught us with their practical experience. Admission criteria of our college was through IMU CET exam for M.Tech.Our syllabus contained marine related subject, naval architecture & ship structure and some research about machinery in second year of M.Tech.
Placement was very good in our time. In our batch almost 80% got placement after completing post graduation. Mainly foreign and Indian shipping companies recruited us for their research and desk job or shore job. Basically our work was basically desk job in zonal office of all types of shipping companies.
In our time(batch of 2027) IMU kolkata is one of the best campuses for b.tech in marine engineering. We experience good hostel facility, large playground, basketball court, mechanical and marine workshop. The single occupant senior hostels are genuinely good in infrastructure.
Academic culture is IMU kolkata is competitive, practicalas well as theoretical. Most of our faculty members are passouts of our college only. So they teach us with their practical experiences. Admission to our college is through out IMU CET exam. Our syllabus contains marine related subjects such as naval architecture, ship structure, IC engine etc.
Placements in IMU kolkata is out of the most delightful and eye catchy things of our college. Companies usually start recruitment from 2nd year only. I myself got placed in a very renowned Japanese company(Nippon Yushen Kabushiki Kaisha) in my 2nd year. At the end of the course almost every body gets placed. The placement rate of the 2 previous batches is more than 90 percentage in our ccollege.
More practical based classes must be inculcated in the curriculum.
Infrastructure:- Indian Maritime University, Kolkata erstwhile DMET has been one of the finest maritime institutes in all over Asia. It was inaugurated by prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. We have two academic buildings, basket ball court, swimming pool and various sports infrastructure along with hostels for accommodation for students.
Academic:- The Basic eligibility criteria of our college admission is more than 65% in PCM in 12th standard and a decent IMUCET rank. The syllabus cover mechanical, electrical, electronics aspect along with various courses required for sailing.
Placement:- Placement is really appealing, almost 90 % of the students get placed ever year. Our senior batches has good placement records with companies coming like MSC, CMACGM, TORM, BSM etc. One should not bring supplies and maintain a decent percentage in the semester exams.
The college takes 11 lakhs for for 4 yrs of Btech course including all hostel accommodation, food, uniform and academics. It's a decent amount of money to be paid to an government institute but the college provides good placement.
Campus life is really good with studies and physical fitness going hand in hand. We get to learn a lot of new things and the ppl we meet in first year become like families at the end of the final year.
This is good paramilitary college for Merchant navy and hence is highly recommended to join this college if anyone is interested in sailing.
Water logging issue is there, hostel rooms are ill maintained and enough facilities to support the current batches to support their strength and numbers in the hostel. Mess sometimes run on short supply of food.
Non Marine faculties really don't know how to teach their alloted subjects, the current HOD is unaware of various rules and regulations onboard a ship and have no sea experience. The labs are better for practical knowledge. Rest the studies are upon you.
Despite everything this college is being kept alive on the basis of its alumni network, string fraternity which provides adequate placement for the batches in here, the last batch has 88% placement around here.
The basic eligibility of our college admission is 60% of PCM and IMUCET ranks. There are well decorated classrooms. Good Laboratories, well equipped library and other Machinery workshop are also available in our campus. Playground is also there
The academic curriculum is quite tough. The syllabus of Marine Engineering is core Marine related syllabus. I studied Marine Engineering B.tech. Machinery related topics can be updated in the modified syllabus.
Overall placement is good. At about 90% of our batchmates got placement. Mainly foreign companies came for placement. At about 5 LPA salary are offered in the various companies in the first time after placement
Overall good
Good
It is the first marine engineering college of India located at taratala kolkata with one of the finest faculty with Asia's largest workshop of marine engines with a huge no of on campus placement to foreign shipping companies and having a wide global alumni network the facilities include library, swimming pool, play ground for cricket, football, hockey this institute trains for the professional life of a seafarer with standard training regulations
I have experienced the well depth of academic knowledge by the faculty with the practical aspects in the laboratory and the examination here are quite interesting as well as the environment provides suitable life
The college provide placement from the beginning of 2nd semester with incredible opportunity of companies from different countries helps to build the network worldwide the early placement helps cadets to relax thoroughout the college life
The roi of the college is value of money the well settled life after college provide well being of the student and easily available of loans and accordingly helping cadets to stay during academic time
The campus area is about of 35 acres with full essential facilities of cafeteria and canteen fully residential campus of cadets and availability of message food helps to for peaceful college life the timing also helps them to full concentrate on studies
It helps me to find out the passion with the extra curricular activities
