In our time(batch of 2027) IMU kolkata is one of the best campuses for b.tech in marine engineering. We experience good hostel facility, large playground, basketball court, mechanical and marine workshop. The single occupant senior hostels are genuinely good in infrastructure.
Academic culture is IMU kolkata is competitive, practicalas well as theoretical. Most of our faculty members are passouts of our college only. So they teach us with their practical experiences. Admission to our college is through out IMU CET exam. Our syllabus contains marine related subjects such as naval architecture, ship structure, IC engine etc.
Placements in IMU kolkata is out of the most delightful and eye catchy things of our college. Companies usually start recruitment from 2nd year only. I myself got placed in a very renowned Japanese company(Nippon Yushen Kabushiki Kaisha) in my 2nd year. At the end of the course almost every body gets placed. The placement rate of the 2 previous batches is more than 90 percentage in our ccollege.
More practical based classes must be inculcated in the curriculum.
Infrastructure:- Indian Maritime University, Kolkata erstwhile DMET has been one of the finest maritime institutes in all over Asia. It was inaugurated by prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. We have two academic buildings, basket ball court, swimming pool and various sports infrastructure along with hostels for accommodation for students.
Academic:- The Basic eligibility criteria of our college admission is more than 65% in PCM in 12th standard and a decent IMUCET rank. The syllabus cover mechanical, electrical, electronics aspect along with various courses required for sailing.
Placement:- Placement is really appealing, almost 90 % of the students get placed ever year. Our senior batches has good placement records with companies coming like MSC, CMACGM, TORM, BSM etc. One should not bring supplies and maintain a decent percentage in the semester exams.
The college takes 11 lakhs for for 4 yrs of Btech course including all hostel accommodation, food, uniform and academics. It's a decent amount of money to be paid to an government institute but the college provides good placement.
Campus life is really good with studies and physical fitness going hand in hand. We get to learn a lot of new things and the ppl we meet in first year become like families at the end of the final year.
This is good paramilitary college for Merchant navy and hence is highly recommended to join this college if anyone is interested in sailing.
Water logging issue is there, hostel rooms are ill maintained and enough facilities to support the current batches to support their strength and numbers in the hostel. Mess sometimes run on short supply of food.
Non Marine faculties really don't know how to teach their alloted subjects, the current HOD is unaware of various rules and regulations onboard a ship and have no sea experience. The labs are better for practical knowledge. Rest the studies are upon you.
Despite everything this college is being kept alive on the basis of its alumni network, string fraternity which provides adequate placement for the batches in here, the last batch has 88% placement around here.
The basic eligibility of our college admission is 60% of PCM and IMUCET ranks. There are well decorated classrooms. Good Laboratories, well equipped library and other Machinery workshop are also available in our campus. Playground is also there
The academic curriculum is quite tough. The syllabus of Marine Engineering is core Marine related syllabus. I studied Marine Engineering B.tech. Machinery related topics can be updated in the modified syllabus.
Overall placement is good. At about 90% of our batchmates got placement. Mainly foreign companies came for placement. At about 5 LPA salary are offered in the various companies in the first time after placement
Overall good
Good
It is the first marine engineering college of India located at taratala kolkata with one of the finest faculty with Asia's largest workshop of marine engines with a huge no of on campus placement to foreign shipping companies and having a wide global alumni network the facilities include library, swimming pool, play ground for cricket, football, hockey this institute trains for the professional life of a seafarer with standard training regulations
I have experienced the well depth of academic knowledge by the faculty with the practical aspects in the laboratory and the examination here are quite interesting as well as the environment provides suitable life
The college provide placement from the beginning of 2nd semester with incredible opportunity of companies from different countries helps to build the network worldwide the early placement helps cadets to relax thoroughout the college life
The roi of the college is value of money the well settled life after college provide well being of the student and easily available of loans and accordingly helping cadets to stay during academic time
The campus area is about of 35 acres with full essential facilities of cafeteria and canteen fully residential campus of cadets and availability of message food helps to for peaceful college life the timing also helps them to full concentrate on studies
It helps me to find out the passion with the extra curricular activities
My college has a very good infrastructure and is well maintained. We have well maintained class room which has monitors in them and also have a large marine work shop which has every type of machines.
Our basic criteria to get admission in our college is 65% and student must have PCM in there 10+2 class. Our course cariculam is little bit tough but still is pursuing this course is a good choice to build carrier.
Different types of companies visit to our campus for placement. Our overall placement scenario is very good like near about 95% cadets got placed from every batch. Different foreign companies also visit our campus for placement.
Overall worth it
Good experience
the college area is about 30 acres, there are 4 separate hostels for every year of b.tech, the new academic block is fully air conditioned, and five storied. there is a swimming pool upto 15 feet, a seperate gym for male and female cadete, a workshop, a library, a separate hostels for female cadets, a pond, a garden.
all the faculties for every year are highly qualified, ex mariners, served as captains chief engineers for multiple years. the quality of education is decent too. the library issues all the required textbooks for a sem for the whole sem. (book bank service).
excellent placemnet record, if the cadet is not voulentierly opting out from campus placement then 100% of every batch gets placed given that the cadet doesnt have a diciplinary action against him/her and doesn't have a present compartment in any subject.
for joining the merchant navy as an officer in engine side, this college is best in value for money as the placements are almost guaranteed, in exchange of only 11-12 lakh indian rupees, as it is a government college.
my own experience was also good, there were several problems regarding mixing up with my batchmates at the start but i was able to overcome then with time, other problems like flooding in hostel and path during monsoon sesson teach you how to manage difficult situations.
no
My college has more or less, every basic thing which would be required to understand the concepts. But it lacks good hostel facilities and reasonable sports infrastructure. Living spaces are cramped but clean.
The Btech in Marine Engineering course requires the best faculties having a lot of sea time and practical experience for core marine engineering subjects, which they provide, in many times, better than anybody's expectations. Other subjects teachers may not be satisfactory and might show poor quality teaching, but those subjects don't carry much for sea time
Placements vary according to many geopolitical factors, for other colleges, the affect is very significant, but our college, almost everybody gets places. Untill and unless you have decided to not be placed, you will get enough chances to appear in companies.
The college life may seem tough but it gives every opportunity to rise to the greatest of heights in your carrer
Indian Maritime University Kolkata is one of best campus for the marine engineering in India. Well decorated classroom, Well facilated classroom and all types of playground are in our campus. Good hostel is also there
The faculties are very helpful and kind hearted. The lab instructors are very knowledgeable also. The basic criteria of our college admission is PCM percentage 60%. We are studying in 4th year Marine Engineering
Placement is overall good. Many types of foreign companies normally come for Placement. In our previous batch almost 92% got Placement after the final year. If anyone gets Placement an approx 5 LPA is provided
Overall worth it
