But with a JEE Mains rank of 900 you can go for different NITs i.e. National Institute of Technology. Your rank is good just prepare for JEE Advance examination nicely and grab the seat of IITs.

GATE, also called Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, is a computer bases national leveled test to judge the understanding of various science and engineering undergraduate subjects.

It is conducted by the following institutes:

IISc (Indian Institute of Science)

IIT Roorkee, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Bombay.

The benefit of GATE exam is that it's score helps to gain admission in prestigious PG programs at IIT's and IISc's such as 

ME(Master of Engineering)

M.Tech(Master of Technology)

Ph.D(Doctor of Philosophy)

Thus opening a good scope for students who want persue the above courses.

Actually both course have their own advantages. You should watch Ravindrababu ravula sir video for proper guidance. 

He is a master is specified CS domain able to provide as much as proper guidance. You should also watch YouTube video by various candidate to specify which is more good.

You may be familiar with this that there are two set of courses i.e major in which you are pursuing your mtech and minor which can be any other course aside your major course and will have less number of credits. So Major cutoff of a course is the cutoff when that course is taken as a major and minor cutoff is the cutoff when the course is taken as a minor.
