There is a good infrastructure in our college, and full internet is available on the campus. There are lots of Laboratories in the college. Some of the classes are digital classrooms with projectors installed. There is a central library where students get mostly academic books but students are not allowed to study in the library. Hostel conditions are good in terms of electricity, water, and internet connectivity. But the space living space is not clean and mess food is not good and unhygienic.
I am currently studying Information Technology because I love computers and coding. Mostly the faculty members are well-qualified and a unique teaching skills. The curriculum is not updated not adapted to the recent technologies and teaches the old scrap technologies. This does not make students industry ready. Students should put effort into their skill development.
The most favorite thing in my college is placements. There is a record 100% placement in the Information Technology department in the 2022 batch. Cognizant is the mass requitor and Uber provides the highest placement 43 LPA and the average package offered by the companies is 12 LPA. Students got into MNCs like Amazon, Microsoft, Uber, Capgemini, L&T, Morgan Stanly, etc.
There is a total of 60000 costs per year that need to study and hostels, 28000 for tuition fees and 32000 for hostel fees. I think the tuition fees are too expansive compared to other departments. So, I think my money is not the value of worth it.
The college campus is very beautiful and students enjoy a very good college life. Students enjoy the annual fest JECLET and tech fest Sristi. There are lots of clubs like sports, drama, music, dance, Coding, Space research club, robotics club, etc. The teachers are very helpful. The college location is beside the National Highway, and there is a Hospital 500m near the college.
College life is an important part of our life. We should choose our college very carefully. Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College provides you with a good exposer to college life.
Seperated hostels are there for each year.Free wifi is also available in our college and has a big library.Labs are good and well maintained.Canteen is also good.Badminton,cricket,gym,etc.... are available in our college. It also has a super speciality hospital beside it for emergencies.
The faculty in this college is great when it comes to Mechanical Engineering,Civil Engineering,Electrical Engineering,Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology. The proffessors help a lot throughout the course and later on.
The companies where the students get placed are TCS,CTS,Infosys,Fusion Charts,Capgemini,Kotak Mahindra Bank,Capgemini,Tech Mahindra,IBM,etc..... through on-campus.through off-campus students got placed in google,microsoft,amazon,hotstar,media.net,etc,.......the highest offer was 33 lakh till now through off-campus.
As it's a government college, tution fees are very low as expected. But if you take hostel, you have to pay extra fees like 13k or 14k or you can also take mess. It's completely your choice.
You will absolutely love college life here.JECLAT and Sristi are the biggest fests here and the seniors are very helpful and knowledgeable. Its surroundings are absolutely superb.
Our college has a good infrastructure. It has a vast area and is clean and tidy. The laboratories are a little old fashioned. We have libraries, gymnasium, auditorium, football grounds and a beautiful scenic beauty.
The quality of teaching is very dedicated. Research works and internships are undertaken by almost all the students. Teachers and staff are very supportive. The curriculum is updated regularly with reference to MAKAUT syllabus.
There is almost 70-80% placement both on campus and off campus. Average package is around 3.5-4 LPA. There is a alot of scope in the non core branches. The highest package has crossed 30 LPA. The placement drive is conducted by the training and placement cell of JGEC
It includes library, gymnasium, auditorium, Boys' and girls' hostel, Wifi facilities, a variety of Mechanical Workshops, Laboratories, football playground and renowned college administrative building with departments and their classrooms.
The quality of teaching is good one since the core faculty is one of the most experienced one and a lot of research work is carried out by teachers as well as students of college in different streams.
Placement in the non core sector is one of the boostup. The highest packages crossed 30 lakh year. Average is between 3.5 to 4 lakhs. Core sector students are mainly involved in competitive exams like Gate, GRE , CAT , etc.
Yes, infrastructure of this college is good. The classrooms and laboratories are well furnished. As a engineering college it provide us all essential facilities. The central library of our college consists of lots of books as it is one of the oldest engineering college of the country. we have total 3 sports ground and 5 hostels in our campus. The hostel food is good and in the hostel we get wi-fi and library facility. But the campus is not well maintained and is not cleaned regularly.
currently i am studying electrical engineering and i am in the first year . The quality of teachers is very good and the way they deliver the lessons is very enjoyable . They teach us in such a way that everything becomes very interesting to us . They are also very helpful and clear all our doubts . The course is very much updated . professors not only gives us theoretical knowledge but helps us to gain knowledge through practical experiment. If I study properly my future will be bright.
placement in our college is average. This year almost 70% students get placed with an average package 3.8 lpa . one of them is placed in MEDIA.NET with an package of 30 lpa. But in 2019 the placement scenario was not good at all. so placement varies from year to year . some no of companies visit our campus every year but they offer 3 to 3.5 lpa.
I am in electrical engineering department and my 4 years course fee is just 35000 . For all the core branches the course fee is minimum . But in case of Informational technology it is almost 1.10 lakhs for 4 years . But according to me it is very much worthy because if i go to pursue the same degree to a private engineering college it will take huge amount of money.
campus life is very good in our college. seniors are very helpful to us . There is no ragging in our college . There is total 18 clubs like coder's club , rotract club, dance club , drama club , photography club etc . our college also has an initiative named JOTI. This is mainly a free night study center where students from nearby slum come for studying.our college also has SRISTI(technical fest) and JECLET(cultural fest). college staffs, professors and alumnus are also very helpful.
Our college has the necessary infrastructure to improve any student as an engineer. Laboratories are well equipped as very much clean for use and foods are also hygienic of our two canteens and 4 hostel canteens also. Our hostel rooms has free broadband connections for each hostilities . Our college also provide us many smart classrooms.
Here I am studying Electronics and Communication Engineering and I am a student of the first year. Here we have many qualified teachers with more than 20 years of teaching experience, almost 80% of them are qualified from many IITs. Teaching faculties are very much helpful and polite toward students. Curriculums are vary much updated according to the syllabus of MAKAUT which makes us job-ready.
Although it is an autonomous Government college our placements rate is so much lower than any other government college but from few years 70% of students of our college are get placed in many popular companies. Average on-campus placement package is approximately 4.5 lakh per annum. Many of the students of our college placed off-campus also. Highest package of this year is 39 lakh per annum.
In case of my course, It costs 16000 rupees per year for 4 years.
Its satisfactory when a government college is considered. Wifi is available. Very good labs and workshops with advanced machines and technologies. 3D printers and CAD labs also present. Faculty is very co-operative and tbh that is the best thing. Faculties are extremely friendly and helpful. Theres a central library with most of the required books available as well as each library has its own library. Hostel rooms are satisfactory, not grand though.
Curriculum is based on the University guidelines. Teachers are well experienced. Though classes are cancelled sometimes. Practicals and workshops are organised. Participation in lots of Hackathons and Tech Fests are promoted. Overall its average.
Placements are good for CSE and IT. For my branch i.e. ME placement is a bit tough though some are placed in very good companies but those are like 5 students. Faculties are a lot supportive during the process.
Government Colleges are very friendly on the pocket. A 4 year course is costing me just 46K ruppees.
One of the best features. Overnight canteens open. Lots of clubs in campus. Gym in campus. Volleyball, Basketball courts are also there. Lots of playing grounds, indoor games in hostels. Robotics clubs, Space clubs, photography etc. College has its own music band and dance group. Organises the biggest Technical and Cultural fest of North Bengal. Most of the things available in campus including a State Bank branch and Indian Post kiosk branch. So no issues regarding safety. 24hr CCTV surveillance
All the necessary infrastructure for all the department is there. There are a total of four hostels for boys and one for girls. Hostel has its own library. There are all sorts of sport facilities available.
I am in Mechanical Engineering. The faculty here is very much Experienced. All sorts of doubts are also cleared. And teachers keeps students involved in day to day changing technologies. The teacher student relationship is at its best here.
Placement is of average package of about 3-4 LPA. Top MNCs like TCS, CTS, Capgemini, Infosys comes from on campus recruitment. Also core companies like Haldia Petrochemicals visits and has given a good package of 10LPA.
The tuition fees for my course is 10k per year and it's fully valuable. The sort of education we get here is both personality and mentally oriented.
Campus Life is at its best as it is in the foothills of Himalayan range and Kanchenjunga mountain is visible many a times in winter season. Campus is of 165 acres and suits good to your eyes also.
You can stay well when you get a peaceful environment and a good support system. You get both here as there is both scenic beauty of mountains and tea gardens and hence you get a peaceful environment to arm and grow.
It has a poor infrastructure, infact we don't have AC in auditorium, though computer lab are equipped with sufficient pc but minor them don't work, remained damaged for a long time, cost of leaving is quiet low, hostel contains free WiFi(can be used during lab),infact college too, plenty exposure for sports, class rooms are good enough and clean, mechanical workshop also occurre with care, College buildings are new
For mechanical engineering and information technology department teachers are student friendly, computer science departmental teachers teaches us well like concepts of dsa(data structures algorithm),and the main thing you will find many friendly seniors will help you in competitive coding which is the part and parcel for getting dream job.Several workshop seminars happens frequently for strengthening the skills and making students aware that what exactly industry needs from a fresher.
To speak frankly it is a tier 3 college so placement is decent for non core department only.Average package offered is 3.2 lpa-3.5 lpa(mass recruiter like cognizant, tcs visit campus). But near around 20 students every year cracked dream packages.2 seniors are interning at Amazon and one of them got placement offer from media.net.2 cracked tcs digital,PWC.we have our aluminies in apple, Qualcomm, but when it comes to core department it is poor 2-4 company visit not with decent salary.
Several scholarship program are available, since it is a government college so it is the cost effective place to study. The cost of 4 years is 1 lakh 60 thousands which is quite low comparing to other semi government, Private colleges.besides tfw scheme is available for economically backward students.
Jgec (jalpaiguri government engineering college)offers a charming campus life.our tech fest SRISTI , cultural fest JECKLET makes North Bengal unique and delighted.anual sports, helpful students seniors, gymnastics, The local people here are helpful to strangers,LH(Ladies Hostel) is safe and secure. The north Bengal is quiet rural and undeveloped.M tech hostel is not ready it is under construction.
Join if you are getting non core department and want to enjoy hostel life.a good coding atmosphere and competition are available. So,in a nutshell you can get a bachelor degree in low amount.4 years will spend watching natural beauty of north Bengal.
All the necessary infrastructure, facilities and equipment are present in our college but some of these equipments are not updated but also working. Classrooms, libraries are very clean and hygienic and also well maintained.sport centres, hostel are equally good. Evrery two times of a week swiper cleans the living spaces and foods are also very tasty and healthy.
I am studying in Electronics and communication engineering branch because I have a nack of doing research works on every part of digital communication and its tools.Teaching quality is very impressive and all the curriculum is updated including all recent developments in the field.
The quality of placements is equally good. Above 80% students were placed every year. The highest salary package of 2019 has been offered to a ECE student named Raja Bikramaditya( worth 30 LPA) of our college. 75% of students were hired by Cognizant this year and many core companies has came and hired many students of our college with necessary salary package.
For my stream ,admissionsion fee is approximately 18000, Exam fee(per semester) is 5000 and hostel fee is approximately 13000. Yes I am getting my money worth from all the college related things like teaching quality, food value , infrastructure and all these things.
College campus is so beautiful. Its surrounded by trees and a scenic beauty of kenchanjunga mountain is seen from our hostel. The most beautiful and splendid tea garden surrounding our hostel is speading a peaceful atmosphere for study and the weather is also so romantic to say for young generation. I must say you will fall in love with the campus atmosphere. Students, teachers and also staffs are so friendly to take any help from them. The place is very safe.It can handle emergencies.
Come our college to get an advantage to meet your bright future face to face. If you come here i must guarantee you that you will miss your four years of here.
Based on the previous year's WBJEE cutoff ranks for the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) branch at Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College (JGEC), scoring 65 marks might make it challenging but not entirely impossible to secure a seat.
Looking at the 2024 cutoff data, the closing ranks for the General category (Home State) in the three rounds of counselling for CSE were quite low, ranging from 1747 to 2157 . These ranks typically correspond to significantly higher marks than 65 in the WBJEE.
However, the actual rank you secure with 65 marks in WBJEE 2025 will be crucial. The marks vs. rank correlation can vary each year depending on the overall performance of the candidates and the difficulty level of the exam. Generally, a score of 60-79 in WBJEE tends to correspond to a rank somewhere in the range of 15,750 to 16,250 based on some estimations.
Given this estimated rank range, admission to the CSE branch at JGEC, which typically closes within the top few thousand ranks for the general category, appears difficult.
Therefore, while getting a CSE seat at JGEC with 65 marks in the general category seems difficult based on past trends, your category and performance relative to others will be the deciding factors. You should aim to score as high as possible in WBJEE 2025 and then check the official cutoff ranks released by WBJEEB after the results. Keep an eye on the counselling process and participate in all relevant rounds.
Eligibility Based on Rank
Your ST category rank is 42620 .
This rank is considered very high for getting admission into JGEC under the ST category .
JGEC ST Category Cutoffs (Previous Years)
In previous years, the closing ST ranks for JGEC have usually been between 8000 to 12000 .
The rank varies depending on the branch (like CSE, ECE, MECH) and the round (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc).
Your rank is way beyond these cutoffs, making direct admission through JoSAA counselling unlikely.
State Quota vs. Other State Quota
If you are from West Bengal , you may get slight advantage through Home State Quota .
Even then, the cutoff is rarely beyond 15000 in ST category.
If you are from another state, chances get even lower as Other State quota cutoffs are stricter.
Alternative Opportunities
You can try for CSAB Special Rounds after JoSAA.
Sometimes, seats remain vacant in less popular branches and might be available in CSAB.
You can also explore private colleges or state-level engineering colleges where ST category reservation is applicable.
Important Tips
Do not rely only on JGEC. Keep other options open.
Explore all rounds of JoSAA and register for CSAB .
Use official websites like josaa.nic.in and csab.nic.in for real-time updates.
Prepare documents and apply to other colleges as backup.
Check if your rank is valid in your home state counselling .
Hello,
To get a clearer picture, let us consider both the cases :
Joining NSEC Now:
Waiting for Other Rounds:
Now based on your situation, my recommendations are :-
Based on your research and personal preferences, make an informed decision. If you are confident about getting a seat in one of your higher preference colleges in the next rounds, it might be worth waiting. Otherwise, securing a seat in CSE at NSEC could be a prudent choice.
Best of luck!
