The college infrastructure is old and not so modern, it needs a lot of improvements. Buildings have old styled classrooms, only a few of them have air conditioning. Labs have lesser equipments and need more for smooth running. Sports centres are well equipped . Hostel facilities are cheap and good and secure. Modifications is always continuing and maintenance is going on. But the other things makeup for this.
I'm currently studying in the 2nd year of Computer Science and Engineering , I'm fascinated by Computers and now with the AI boom my enthusiasms increased and thus i chose this. The academics are very good here, all the students are talented and there's a sense of friendship and competition among all. JU has a very good academics records and results in GATE. Well our syllabus is old but the '29 batch syllabus is updated with more focus on ai/ml and 6 months internship which is remarkable.
The overall placements is very good in JU. CSE has the best placements. Being located in Kolkata we get the best communication and mane offers to secure almost 95% placements overall. In CSE almost all students get placed the percentage is about 97%, the rest choose higher studies. The highest package is 1.45 cr (Rubrik). Average CTC is 21 lpa and median CTC is 20lpa. The college has placement cells and placement coordinators and hence the placement is smooth.
JU has the best value for money. It has the highest ROI in India. Annual fees is just Rs 2400 with mean CTC of Rs 20lpa in CSE. Hostel fees is around Rs 2000 ( including room, electricity, 2 times meals).
Campus life is awesome. It's situated in Kolkata so we get a very good city life. Talking about our campus it's lush green and spacious. Students can engage in any sort of sports or other co curricular activities. There are lots of clubs like mechatronics, robotics, coding, finance, e cell, dance, drama , science , poetry and many more. All the students are very good. Well most of the professors are good but some aren't they are stubborn and have some egositic problems, need what they have taught in exam papers else no mercy. Lab assistants are not all good, behaving poorly with students. Our college is safe and it can handle emergencies as it's well connected with all parts of the city.
Our college is great. It has Union which look after the welfare of students. Here we can fix our own schedule and raise a voice. I'm proud to be a "Jodubongshi".
Jadavpur University boasts modern infrastructure with hostels, library, CAD lab, health centre, and counselling. Major upgrades include new science and arts buildings, renovated auditoriums, guest houses, sports centre, and improved facilities for differently-abled students, ensuring a vibrant academic environment.
Jadavpur university offers many courses and programs for the students with a strong hold in their core subjects with the best faculties and professors. It is ranked 1st in west bengal colleges under wbjee through wbjee counselling.
Jadavpur University’s Training and Placement Cell actively invites top companies for campus recruitment, ensuring excellent placement opportunities. With 17 engineering departments and numerous specializations, JU produces highly skilled graduates. The cell maintains strong industry relations and provides training to enhance students’ employability, making the university a preferred destination for recruiters.
The campus is spacious and pleasant. The Chemistry department has well equipped laboratories and clean classrooms. The library has a great collection of books and journals which I find very useful for my studies. The overall environment feels supportive and helps me focus better.
The Master of Science in Chemistry course has been very engaging so far. The professors teach with clarity and are always ready to help. The balance between theory and practical work helps me understand the subject better. Even in my first year I can see how well the course builds a strong foundation for future semesters.
I am still in my first year but I have heard from seniors that placements are decent. Many Chemistry students choose research or higher studies after completing the course. The placement cell gives proper guidance and tries to connect students with good opportunities. Alumni are also helpful and share valuable advice.
Jadavpur University offers excellent education at a very low cost. The fees are affordable and the quality of teaching is outstanding. I feel grateful to study here because the learning experience and exposure are far greater than what I expected. It truly feels like value for every rupee I spend.
Campus life has been wonderful. The environment is lively and filled with friendly people. There are many clubs and events that make each day interesting. I enjoy spending time on the green campus after classes. It feels calm and refreshing and helps me unwind with my friends.
The infrastructure of our college is quite impressive and well-maintained. Laboratories are equipped with up-to-date instruments and computers with internet access, ensuring practical learning alongside theory. The college also provides Wi-Fi across the campus, which helps students stay connected and access study materials easily.Hostel facilities are good, with proper security, clean rooms, and hygienic food in the mess.
The academics of our college are strong and well-structured. The faculty members are knowledgeable, supportive, and use practical examples to make concepts clear. The curriculum is updated regularly to match industry standards, and continuous assessments help improve understanding. Overall, the academic environment encourages learning and critical thinking.
The college has a decent placement record with many reputed companies visiting the campus each year. The placement cell is active and provides guidance through workshops, mock interviews, and resume-building sessions
The college offers good value for money as the quality of education, facilities, and opportunities provided are worth the fees charged. The infrastructure, faculty support, and placement assistance make it a worthwhile investment for students’ future growth.
Campus life is vibrant and engaging, with a mix of academics, cultural events, and extracurricular activities. Students participate in clubs, fests, and competitions that help build confidence and teamwork. The environment is friendly and inclusive, making the college experience enjoyable and memorable.
As a Political Science student at Jadavpur University, I find the infrastructure good for a public institution. The library is amazing with a vast book collection and classrooms are decent though not modern.
Academically, this college is excellent. The teaching quality is very good here and open discussions are also encouraged by our teachers. The syllabus has a good balance of theory and practical learning.
Placements for arts students, especially in Political Science are quite limited. Unlike technical departments, there are not many direct job opportunities. Most of the students prepare for higher studies or government exams.
Jadavpur University is absolutely value for money. The fees are minimal, yet the education, exposure and faculty support are outstanding. It is one of the few universities where one can get top quality academics and a vibrant environment.
I am having a vibrant campus life. There is always something happening like fests, debates and cultural events that bring everyone together. The atmosphere is energetic and I have met a lot of diverse and open-minded people.
Jadavpur University’s infrastructure for PhD ETCE is solid. Labs got tools for telecom, VLSI, but some old equipment due funds issue. Library big, journals plenty, WiFi okay, slow in hostels. Hostels clean, small rooms, mess food Bengali style. 58-acre campus green, sports ground, no AC in classes, Kolkata heat tough. Supports research well.
Academics for PhD ETCE is strong, faculty PhDs teach VLSI, wireless tech. Coursework first, then thesis, seminars on latest trends. Strict progress, flexible for papers, conference funds. Not IIT but top state uni, NBA accredited. Profs busy, chase them for help. Publishes in good journals, great learning.
Placements for PhD ETCE not mass drives, focus academia. Many land faculty jobs in NITs, IITs, 8-10 LPA start, or postdocs abroad. R&D in Synopsys, TI if networked. Depends on papers, alumni help. Good for research path, not quick industry cash, solid outcomes.
PhD fees super low, 20k total, stipend 31k month if NET/GATE. Covers labs, no extra cost. Hostel 2k month, Kolkata cheap to live. High ROI for research career, beats private unis. If funded, paid to study. Great value for budget, worth for serious PhD folks.
Campus life at JU fun for PhD, 58 acres green, tech fests, ETCE clubs for talks. Diverse crowd, easy friends in hostels. Sports, gym, cheap canteen 20 rs meal. Kolkata near for outings, heat bad. Politics sometimes loud, seniors guide. Balanced vibe, love seminars.
College infrastructure really needs to upgrade. Even though there's wifi, adequate classrooms and all of that, the cleanliness amd the buildings need to do better. There's also a shortage of desks and chairs.
Academics is excellent. Studies here are at par with any other top level college outside the state. Opportunities may not be plenty but academics here will prepare you for the best outside. I'm studying history and the professors are skilled.
Even though history department does not have enough placement opportunities, the engineering faculty and other faculties have a lot of placement options. Top notch companies come here and students do get placed as per their results.
Since it is a government college, the fees is minimal and education standard is at the max.
Campus life, personally, is manageable.
A very liberal space where everyone is free to express themselves without the fear of getting judged. The libraries have adequate books for students of all the classes. The classrooms have enough space to accommodate at least 70 people.
Top-notch quality of education is provided here. The faculty members are highly qualified and extreme helpful. The new mentor-mentee program has proved to be useful for a lot of students, especially those who live away from their home.
In the Arts faculty, we get placements after PG1 and most of the students get jobs at reputed places. The eligibility exam to sit for the campus placement ensures that everyone gets a fair chance to opt for their wished careers.
The infrastructure at Jadavpur University is decent overall, with the essential facilities in place for students. Classrooms, laboratories, and libraries are fairly maintained. The canteens offer hygienic and affordable food, making it convenient for students to manage daily meals. However, the condition of bathrooms is rather poor. The Engineering Drawing rooms don't look like they ever get cleaned. Repairs of electrical appliances like fans and lights often take a long time. Concern affecting infrastructure development is the lack of sufficient funding, which has slowed down repairs and modernization efforts. With better financial support, the campus facilities could be significantly improved.
Academically, Jadavpur University holds a strong reputation. The overall standard of education is good, and many GATE toppers come from here. Since admission is through the highly competitive WBJEE, the student quality is generally high, fostering a challenging and intellectually vibrant environment. However, some courses have room for improvement. There is a notably high failure rate in mathematics courses, and students often face difficulties due to the way the subject is taught and evaluated. Delays in publishing exam results can affect internship and scholarship opportunities, which is a serious concern. Another drawback is the late start of classes for first-year students, often beginning as late as November. This disrupts the academic calendar and leads to reduced holidays or compressed schedules. On the positive side, the university offers a wide range of student clubs and technical societies like the Aerospace club, Mechatronics club, Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell), etc. These clubs provide valuable real-world experience, encouraging practical learning and innovation alongside academics.
Placements are arguably the strongest aspect of Jadavpur University. The university consistently achieves nearly 100% placement rates across all engineering departments, reflecting the high caliber and competence of its students. Top companies visit the campus each year. It's not uncommon for a few students to receive offers exceeding ₹1 crore per annum. The median salary in most engineering branches is no less than ₹8–10 lakh per annum, which stands out even among premier institutions. Students also secure internships during their 2nd and 3rd years, gaining valuable industry exposure well before graduation. The impressive placement performance is a clear testament to the merit, hard work, and technical skills of JU students.
The value for money at Jadavpur University is one of its biggest strengths. With a tuition fee of around ₹10,000 for the entire four-year course (except for the IT department, which still remains quite affordable), JU offers world-class education at a fraction of the cost of IITs or private colleges, which often charge ₹10–15 lakh. This ultra-low fee structure is a real blessing for students from low-income backgrounds. The affordability is so compelling that some students even choose to give up seats at IITs and study at JU instead, easing the financial burden on their families. Hostel facilities are extremely budget-friendly, with a nominal charge of just ₹20 (excluding food) per month, and even the campus gym is completely free for students. Considering the nearly 100% placement rate and the other great career opportunities here, the return on investment is exceptional—practically infinite. Jadavpur University truly proves that quality education and career success don’t have to come with a heavy financial burden.
Jadavpur University (JU) offers a rich and vibrant campus life spread across two campuses—the main one at Jadavpur and the second at Salt Lake. The Jadavpur campus, sprawling across approximately 60 acres, is situated in a prime location in South Kolkata, right beside Jadavpur Railway Station, making it extremely accessible for students commuting by train. This campus is the heart of JU’s cultural and academic life. With its lush green zones, serene Jhilpar (lake side), archaic red-brick academic buildings, and walls adorned with vibrant student graffiti, the Jadavpur campus has a soul of its own. Popular student hangouts like Milan Da’s canteen and the Open Air Theatre (OAT) contribute to a strong sense of community. JU’s playgrounds, informal adda zones, and student activism create a dynamic atmosphere rarely found elsewhere. The blend of heritage, modernity, and student freedom makes JU campus life truly special. The Salt Lake campus, although smaller at around 20 acres, boasts a world-class sports facility, including a high-quality cricket ground where professional teams like Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) often come to train. This campus offers a quieter, more academic-focused environment, yet its modern infrastructure complements JU’s strong academic ethos. Whether it's the freedom to express, the lush environment, the culture of student engagement, or the accessibility, Jadavpur University’s campus life offers an experience that few other colleges can match.
The college offers an excellent infrastructure that is both modern and student-friendly. Every aspect of the campus is designed to create a comfortable and supportive environment where students can focus on their studies and personal development.
The academic environment of the college is honestly quite good and well-structured. Most of the teachers here are experienced, approachable, and genuinely invested in helping students succeed.Classes are conducted regularly and according to the academic schedule.
The placement scenario at Jadavpur University is considered one of the best among public universities in India, especially for engineering and technology students. And remaining students who not placed pursued higher education.

Hello, in Jadavpur University some departments conduct their own entrance examinations, which might not be dependent on your HS results. However, JU's cutoffs for Arts and Science subjects mainly range from 480 to 495, and Engineering admission depends on the WBJEE rank, and not on HS results. Hope this helps!
