Hey!
See, the infrastructure facilities are good in both colleges, IEM kolkata and SMVDU jammu and kashmir, but on the basis of placement records, you must choose IEM as it has good placement record with an average salary package of 4-5 LPA.
But as you mentioned that you want to prepare for GATE exam in CS, then there is no point of choosing electrical engineering (EE), anyway you can go for ECE as it includes some topics of software part which would be helpful for your GATE preparation.
And if you want to give 100% for your CS GATE preparation, then you must go for undergraduate degree in CSE in any other top college (private or government) in which you are getting CSE.
Hope I answered your query.
Thankyou
Dear Candidate,
If you want to change your branch after 1st year , then it is a difficult task. It's not an easy tak. For this, you need to get very good marks/CGPA in your 1st year Examinations . Means, you have to became top in 1st year exams in all of the branches. And also, getting such score in not enough. There must be some vacant seat in the branch, where you want to upgrade your seat. If you have both these things, then you can easily slide your branch.
For more info, you can read the sliding procedure for your college. You can check it on the official website of your college.
Hope it helps.

hello,
IEM Kolkata is one of the best and top institute in west bengal which takes admission through west bengal's WBJEE exam. If we take SMVDU into account it takes admissions through jee mains. If we take the placement scenario, in both colleges most company that comes are mass recruiters like tcs, cognizant, wipro etc. Both colleges have 4-5 lakhs average package. So there is no much difference at all. But if you consider the tourism then offcourse jammu is better from my view point.
hope this will help you
all the best!!
Hi Aspirant,
If you get ECE then you will be surfaced to coding and all and you will get satisfied with both syudy of computer related as well as electronics related. However ECE will be better since placements in most of the colleges are better and you will have no problem with the placements. With your first choice being CS ,ECE will be best for you as you can learn coding as well as core subject choices.
Hope it helps!!
Hello aspirant,
Hope you are doing well
Based on your rank you have slight chances to get into that college but try to put some Colleges as backup option because cutoffs tend to change every year based on various factors.
So having a backup is important as there is uncertainity.
Hope this helps you
All the best!
Dear Aspirant,
Both Institutes are kinda different from each other. While Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata is a private institute, Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar is a public/government deemed University.
In terms of ranking and placement, IEM is slightly ahead of GKV college. While IEM provides an average salary to ee students at an package of 3.4 lakhs, GKV college provides an average salary of 2.4 lakhs to cs Students. Furthermore, although being a private institute, IEM charges only 3.3 lakhs as tution fees for the graduation course of 4 years.
In terms of intake of students, IEM has an intake of 120 seats for ee students, GKV college has an intake of 115 seats for cs Students.
If one is looking for a public Universities graduation certificate, then he may opt for GKV COLLEGE. Otherwise, you may opt IEM college.
The problem with both colleges are that the placement package offered to Students is quite low and hence does not meet the genuine expectations of an aspiring engineer which is to have good career ahead.

hello,
yes, you can appear in wbjee next year and withdraw your admission from IEM as well as from MAKAUT. If you want Jhadhavpur University you have to bring the rank in under 100 in order to get CSE, under 300-400 for IT and ECE. If you are from west bengal then its more easy as compared to non bengali candidates as JU takes more tahn 50% bengali candidates. So accordingly you have to work hard.
Though IEM is also one of the top college in west bengal but as compared to JU its foolish to compare soo
all the best!!
It has modern classrooms, good labs, and a central library but limited space and several wifi and network issues. Infrastructure is decent but not so good. But they have ac which is good for this summer.
The BBA course takes place in the Ashram Campus of Salt Lake, IEMK. It is the most modernized building among all the buildings of IEM. It has got fully chilled air conditioned classrooms, which is a savior during this hot scorching summers. There is facility of clean washrooms. The water filters have serve both cold and normal temperature water. The building has got 2 working elevators, which is all time used by both students and faculties. The campus has a basket ball court, a game zone and a cafeteria, with friendly staffs.
Infra is good, as the laboratories and classrooms are well equipped with modern technologies and technical instruments. The college is lacking proper sports area and cafeteria, otherwise the infra is good.
