At first you can't compare VIT to other colleges like Amity. You didn't mentioned the year he got placed, times have changed and the placements at VIT for CSE are unmatched with exception of BITS. Vellore institute of technology ranks 15 in the nirf engineering rankings and one can't get such high ranks until it excells in each domain.
Vellore institute of technology, Vellore has an average package between 7-8 lacs currently for CSE that will definitely touch 9+ by end of four years.
