To get admission for M-Tech in IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Delhi a student must give GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) Exam.

Every year it is either organized by any of the IITs across India or IISc (Indian Institute of Science) Bangalore.

Eligibility for GATE Examination is as follows :-

  • A candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. (There are some other graduation courses too after which a candidate is eligible since B.E is mentioned I am given only that particular course)
  • There is no age limit for this exam.

The application form was available in September for the year 2018. So this year that is in 2019 stay updated to know about the release of GATE Application form. The application form of GATE requires registration, relevant contact details, academic and personal details, uploading of documents, and payment of application fees.

Now IIT Delhi offers these programs in M.Tech Civil Engineering :-

  • M. Tech in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering
  • M. Tech in Rock Engineering and Underground Structure
  • M. Tech in Structure Engineering
  • M. Tech in Water Resources Engineering
  • M. Tech in Construction Engineering and Management
  • M. Tech in Environmental Engineering and Management
  • M. Tech in Transportation Engineering.

GATE Exam syllabus would depend upon the which course you want to opt for.

GATE Exam comprises of General Aptitude,  Technical plus Engineering Mathematics.

For General Aptitude :- Questions 1 to 5. There would be 5 questions. 1 mark for each question if answered correctly. Total is 5 marks. Questions 5 to 10. Again number of question will be 5 but the marks per question will be 2. Total is 10.

The General Aptitude in total comprises 15 marks.

For Technical and Engineering Mathematics :- This section comprises of total 85 marks. Technical Section is for 70 marks whereas Engineering Mathematics is for 15 marks.

Therefore the total will be 100 marks.

These all will be asked as Multiple Choice Questions .

Marking Scheme for multiple choice questions is as follows :-

  • For 1 mark questions - 1/3 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • For 2 mark questions - 2/3 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • No marks will be deducted if question is not attempted.

Numerical Answer Type Questions :- The answer to this type of questions will be a real number which the candidates will have to enter through virtual keyboard. The answers could be integers or in decimals. No choices will be available for this type of questions.

No negative marking for Numerical Answer Type questions.

There can be 25 to 40 marks for Numerical Answer Type Questions.

This is how you can give GATE Exam whose scores will help you to get admission in IIT Delhi. Choose the course according to your interest and prepare for the syllabus accordingly.

Also don't choose too many books to refer from. Limited number of good books if studied in a good manner helps a lot. Prepare a timetable. Set targets for the day. Make handwritten notes which which you can revise before the exam.

After the results of GATE Exam are announced the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) starts. This can only be filled by the students who qualify GATE. The application form for the IIT Delhi is also to be filled after qualifying GATE Exam if a student wants to take admission in this Institute. The students are then selected on the basis of GATE Scores for interview or a written examination whichever would be conducted by institute.

The student is then given admission on the basis of GATE Scores and scores obtained in Interview or Written Exam(depending on institute).

Prepare well.

It would be tough to predict the exact marks as JEE Advance Exam pattern changes every year. But try to score more than 55-60 % as a General category to get into IIT Delhi.

Good Luck!

Hello Rakesh

Rakesh it may be or it may not be because sometimes it depends upon the management as well if that particular Institution. According to my suggestion you should directly go and meet with your management staff of your respective IIT premises then surely they will further assist you in that .

All the best

Admission to IIT Delhi is Not based on JEE Main it will be based on JEE Advance But You need to qualify JEE Main to be eligible to appear for JEE Advances, JEE Main is Just qualifying exam and shall not contain any weightage to the final rank calculation of JEE Advanced which is solely responsible for admission to IIT.

You can check Opening closing Rank of Pra]evious Year to know what rank You should get in Order to join IIT Delhi under various categories and various courses. Anyways if you are able to score more than 50% marks in JEE Advanced then there are quite good chances that You will be able to get admission to IIT Delhi in some course Kindly follow the link below to know the previous years closing ranks.

Hello Vanktesh,
For admission in IITs, your rank must be below AIR 6000 for general .but, If you want good engineering stream then your rank must be below 1500 because there are limited numbers of seat intake. So for CSE or ECE or IT engineering, You must be in top 2000 for good IITs. If your priority in IIT only irrespective of Engineering stream then you can secure admission with rank below 6000.
Good Luck.

Hello Raaj,
Anyone and everyone who gets finally selected in an IIM has to pay the fees. There's no merit list as such for IIMs.
You get calls for GD-PI-WAT based on your percentile, and call from one IIM doesn't guarantee call from the other IIM too and even a percentile of 99+ doesn't guarantee a call from creme IIMs. All IIMs run their admission processes autonomously and there isn't a common counseling where you can go, submit your documents, give interview and wait for merit list.
For every individual IIM that gives you a call ( based on your percentile, past academic performance and other suitable parameters) you have to go through their individual processes. And then, each IIM will declare its own result, which again won't declare your rank. Either congratulate you upon your selection or give you a waiting list number for future.

And then, none provide scholarships upon entrance or admission itself.
Though, you have options of scholarships once admitted.
Scholarships based on income level of family and categories are offered by government for students pursuing higher educations in IIMs.
Then there are scholarships provided by companies like ABG based on your excellent performance in CAT and academics. ABG scholarship is released right 2-3 weeks after you join.

Hope this help.
All the best!!

hii

its hard to say based on the marks while every year it would be very huge diffrence change on the other hand the result and admission goes on with RANK so considering your category in terms of RANK you should have below 1000
