The College of Engineering Trivandrum established on 3rd July 1939 during the reign of Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, is the first engineering college in the erstwhile Travancore State. Initially functioning from the Chief Engineer's bungalow (now PMG Office) with Maj T.H. Mathewman as its first Principal, the CET Trivandrum began with 21 students each in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical disciplines. It came under the Government of Kerala in the late 1950s with the formation of the Directorate of Technical Education and shifted to its present 125-acre campus in 1960.
Courses at CET Trivandrum are offered at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels in full-time mode. CET Trivandrum Courses include B.Tech, B.Arch, M.Tech, M.Arch, M.Plan, MBA, MCA and PhD programmes. The fee structure of CET Trivandrum is different for every course based on its level and duration. The college is affiliated with APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Thiruvananthapuram (APJAKTU Thiruvananthapuram). Admission to CET Trivandrum in B.Tech programmes are done through valid KEAM scores.
For the B.Arch selection to CET Trivandrum, National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) scores are considered. According to the MBA admission process of CET Trivandrum, candidates must qualify for CAT/CMAT/KMAT. For CET Trivandrum M.Arch and M.Plan programmes, admissions are through a Centralised allotment process by the DTE Kerala. GATE scores are accepted for M.Tech admissions at CET Trivandrum.
