Hey there

Both are good IEM has a better ranking than heritage and since IT and CSE has almost same syllabus so you can go for IT too and get same placements. But it's your choice what you want to choose as not all wants placements but higher studies too.

Good luck

Hello
Astik Goari
, All the three courses with there colleges are best but in overall rating and in placement and all features  is Mechanical Engineering in Jadavpur university is best.

But i suggest you please first clarify about your course or a branch then think about college.

Hope it is helpful for you :)

hello aspirant,

firstly, i would like to congratulate you on achieving such a good rank in your WBJEE examination.

so, according to my experience it would be slightly difficult for you to get into IEM based on your rank if you belong to General category but it is quiet easy for reserved category student but still you can into a decent college based on your ranking.please check the best colleges available in your location and you can also compare them on the carrers360 website.

Hope i might helped you.

Happy learning.

Hey there

IEM kolkata is bigger brand and has good placements. An ECE at kalyani is also good but the college has not good placements. Syllabus of CSE and IT are same and companies gives both the branches equal opportunities so if you want to go for software go for IEM but its you choice at the end. Research a lot before joining.

Good luck

First of all congratulations for your result. The cutoffs change every year as it depends on various factors. And Institute of Engineering and Management is one of the best private Engineering colleges of West Bengal so thw cutoffs are quite high for this college. Now CSE and IT both are the most demanded branches and that's why these seats are filled first. For admission to CSE or IT in IEM, the GMR for TFW candidates lie around 1540 and 3750 respectively. But your GMR is around 8200 and TFW rank is also high compared to seats reserved for TFWs. With your rank it might be difficult to get IEM but you can look for other top colleges such as Techno India Salt Lake, Heritage Institute of Technology etc. Now this is based on last few years' cutoff and this year it might get changed. Hello Arindam,

The Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM) is a government Institution while University of Engineering and Management (UEM) is a private Institution. Among these two, UEM is among the top ranked colleges in state of West Bengal and therefore it's cutoffs are high. While, you can easily get admission in IEM through an entrance exam conducted by them.

In the placement view, IEM seems to have higher  placement records than UEM.

Hi Shashank,

WBJEE was conducted on February 2 this year and now the result has been announced. You have obtained rank 2519.

Heritage Institute of Technology and Institute of Engineering and Management are good colleges. You are getting CSE and ECE respectively. Both are also good branches. Now it is upto you which branch you go with.

You can choose your branch based on your passion and interest. If you like coding and have to get job instantly you can opt for CSE. If otherwise if you like to get government job and have other interests you can choose ECE. The placement is  better in CSE but it is to be noted that ECE does not lag too behind. Therefore choose wisely.

Wish you all the best.

Hi Shashank Shehar,

As per your rank, the IEM Kolkata - Institute of Engineering and Management in B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering closing rank for 1 st round is 1508.

For B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering closing rank for 2nd round is 1740.

and For third round B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering closing rank is 1800. So, you have less chance of getting this college.

Congratulations for your result. There are various factors which determine the cutoffs so this changes every year. Now the cutoffs also depend on your category which you haven't mentioned. So considering you as a general category student and going by last few years' data, Computer Science seats get filled within 1700 rank after round 3 counselling. And Information Technology seats are mostly filled within 3100 rank. With your rank, it will be quite difficult to get IEM, Kolkata. Being one of the best private Engineering colleges, The cutoffs of IEM are quite high. Based on your rank you can expect only Mechanical Engineering in IEM. However, you can check for other private engineering Colleges. http://engineering.careers360.com/articles/wbjee-cutoff You can use our WBJEE College Predictor tool to know where you have good chances http://www.careers360.com/wbjee-college-predictor

Campus Life: 3.3/5

only come here if u dont get in somewhere else

College Infrastructure

it does have moderately good facilities when compared to other colleges in kolkata (other than JU and IIEST shibpur as they are in a league of their own) but when compared to other top colleges (iem claims to be a top college), it falls short and it falls short by A LOT

My college is best in all Courses.

College Infrastructure

One of the best infrastructure maintained with the equipment needed. Faculties are the best in business best in there field all are the rich in experience in there perticular field. Absolute clean and greeney.

its a good college to study and placements.

College Infrastructure

It has modern classrooms, good labs, and a central library but limited space and several wifi and network issues. Infrastructure is decent but not so good. But they have ac which is good for this summer.
