IIT Goa has a placement cell that looks after all the placement-related activities. College placements are recruiting programmes conducted by the university to provide job opportunities for the students while they are in college and also when they are near the completion of the course. Students can intern during the college period to acquire work experience and get exposure to the work environment. These internships increase job opportunities in the job market after completion of graduation. Colleges arrange placements by inviting recruiters and companies to the college to hire students.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa Placement Cell ensures all students get on- and off-campus support for placements and conducts suitable training towards career readiness for all students. The role of the placement cell of IIT Goa is to provide career counselling to the students, both for careers in industry and academia. The placement cell invites companies and recruiters for the placement process, along with the required documents. These companies visit the campus and conduct a pre-placement talk. Interested students register online on the company’s website for the placement process. The IIT Goa placement cell collects students’ CVs/ resumes and sends them to the companies for shortlisting, and selected candidates are called for further evaluation. The company can also conduct written tests to select candidates. The recruiters/ companies visit the college for further evaluation. The selected students’ list is provided by the company within 2 working days after the completion of the selection procedure.
During the placement process at IIT Goa, an internal faculty from the institute and an external supervisor from the company are always present during all rounds. At the end of the internship, the external supervisor fills an evaluation form, and the student makes a report and presentation of the work carried out during the internship. Grades/credits are awarded to the student based on the evaluation form, report, and presentation.
Recently, IIT Goa has introduced a system of long-term internships in the B. Tech curriculum where students can take up internships at different research and academic institutes and also industries, during their 7th semester, between May and November, for a thorough corporate and research experience.
In order to ensure that the students get the best placement opportunities, the placement cell at IIT Goa puts in the best efforts. All-round assistance is also offered to the recruiters participating in the IIT Goa placement process. The placement process at IIT Goa is conducted in various stages, that have been specified below: -
STAGE 1 - Intimation regarding the upcoming IIT Goa placement session is conveyed to the top recruiters through email or post. Along with the intimation, the invitation letter and the placement brochure are also shared to help the recruiters plan the recruitments.
STAGE 2 - All the recruiters who are interested in hiring graduates from IIT Goa, then convey their confirmation through email along with other necessary information.
STAGE 3 - All the students at IIT Goa who wish to participate in the placement session are required to complete the registration process. This requires them to fill an application form and submit copies of the required documents.
STAGE 4 - The placement cell prepares a schedule for the entire session and communicates the dates to the recruiters. They conduct a pre-placement session to intimate the students regarding the policies of the companies. All the queries and questions of the students are also answered after the session.
STAGE 5 - In order to be eligible for the available positions, students must qualify the various stages of the selection process including group discussion, technical and HR interview and several others depending on the job profile.
STAGE 6 - Only those candidates who qualify the various stages of the selection process are provided the offer letters by the recruiters.
As per the IIT Goa placement reports 2021, out of 76 registered students, only 66 students got placed in the final placement drive. IIT Goa recorded a good placement in the year 2021.
