IIT Jodhpur M. Tech Admission 2015 - The Online Application for the IIT J....
The Indian Institute of Technology in Jodhpur (IITJ) was established in 2008. During the Eleventh 5- year plan, it was realized that there was a requirement to extend the number of elite institutions in the country. This included the IITs as well whose number till then was miniscule. Thus, 8 new IITs were established, while IT-BHU was upgraded to the IIT status. These new IITs have over a period of time gained in reputation and are fast closing the gap on the top incumbents. Lakhs of students from all over the country enrol themselves over countless hours of coaching classes in order to secure a seat at the IITs. These new IITs are in – Bhubaneshwar, Rupnagar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Patna and Mandi. A further few IITs have opened up later, known popularly as the ‘Baby IITs’.
Securing a seat at the IITs is done through a rigorous selection process involving the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination). This is the largest entrance exam in the country in terms of numbers and possibly amongst the largest in the world. This paper is given by more than 12 lakh people annually. It is a 3- hour exam worth 90 marks constituting 3 segments with equal weightage. Those segments are- Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. The best of the performers, totalling roughly 2 lakhs of them are further shortlisted for the JEE Advanced which is for selection to the IITs. The JEE Advanced is conducted over 2 rounds on the same day. The morning paper which runs from 9 am till noon is followed by a break and then another 3 hour one. The pattern, however, is not so well understood as the marks pattern is not clearly defined. It keeps changing annually. Admissions to the master’s level programmes is via the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) for B. Tech and via the JAM for its MSc.
The IIT- Jodhpur found the IIT- Kanpur as its mentor in its early days. The classes were initially being held at a temporary location, before relocating to its present 852- acre spot just outside the main city on the Jodhpur – Nagaur road in the state of Rajasthan itself. The courses of study here include the flagship 4- year B Tech., M. Tech, MSc., interdisciplinary as well as doctoral programmes. There are four areas of engineering that can be pursued over here, which are - Mechanical, Electrical, Biotechnology and Computer Science & Engineering. There are science courses as well which are- Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Realizing its importance over the coming years, the IIT- Madras even has a specialized Humanities and Social Sciences wing. One of the differentiating factors at the IITJ is the presence of interdisciplinary courses. Here, expertise from seemingly disparate areas, are combined to develop broader solutions. These may be pursued in the fields of – Energy, System Science and Information & Communication Technology.
The IITJ has also been adept at stitching international collaborations for research and student exchange programmes. These deals have been with both educational institutions as well as international agencies. Some key collaborators in the first category involve a few from Canada- University of Western Ontario, University of Manitoba and the University of Waterloo. There is also the University of Merced from USA, the Institute of Science & Technology from Nara in Japan and the Universität Rovira I Virgili from Tarragona in Spain. The Embassy of France to India is a collaborating agency. Within India itself, such agreements abound such as the ones with AIIMS- Jodhpur and NLU- Jodhpur.
The IIT- Jodhpur has particularly made a name for itself through various social initiatives undertaken, especially for the promotion of scientific temper among the people. One such programme is the Ishan Vikas programme where students from school are made to interact with students from the premier institutes. This initiative is particularly driven towards the students from the North- Eastern states of India. The institute is also connected to the GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Networks) which offers a method for the academicians to keep updating their academic portfolios consistently. The IITJ is also a member and supporter of the IMPRINT (Impacting Research Innovation and Technology) initiative undertaken by the Government of India in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) in Bengaluru.
All this and much more has helped, the IITJ reach respectable scores across national and international rankings. It has been placed at 54th rank among engineering colleges as part of the NIRF (National Institutional Rankings Framework). Beyond academics and research, a lot of student activities take place at the IITJ. The Entrepreneurship Cell here has already made a mark when it comes to events and incubation efforts. The institute may not be too old, but it has already created a vibrant alumni network. The alumni committee is in constant touch with the past students, improving the connect on a constant basis. This has helped generate top-notch placements for the present batches. Some of the recent years’ recruiters include- Goldman Sachs, DE- Shaw, Hyundai, Barclays, Mahindra & Mahindra, L&T, Amazon, Microsoft, BPCL, ISRO and Tata Motors.
Careers360 shortlists over 5000 colleges across domains each year. Out of these colleges, only those colleges are rated/ranked which provide transparent data requested by Careers360. The cumulative scores of colleges are then calculated and they are divided into clusters as per their scores. Careers360 ranks private and government colleges separately as the support system of both types of Institutions is completely different.
Based on the individual scores secured by colleges in cumulative score that they have received.
The colleges are ranked as per the cumulative score that they have received. The college that has got the maximum cumulative score will be ranked first while the college that has got least cumulative score will be ranked last.
Institutions that are promoted by the central/state or provincial Government or Government aided agencies.
Institutes that are promoted by private trusts/Socities/sector 8 companies that are not for profits.
Accreditation is a process by which the quality of all the programme is examined and certified normally by an external body of academics in a college. It validates and certifies the academic processes practised within an institute are robust and relevant.
Accreditation of this College:
In India, a degree can only be delivered by an approved institution and awarded by an institution authorised to do so by an act of parliament or legislature. Approval of institutions can be in the form of affiliation, autonomy, constituent or even approved institution status accorded by a university.
