National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar admissions to all undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses are made based on qualifying examination, a valid score in the entrance test followed by a counselling session. NIT Silchar offers admission to five academic programmes – B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, M.B.A and Ph.D in various disciplines. The UG, PG and Ph.D courses are mainly offered in engineering branches, management disciplines, basic sciences and humanities field.
The NIT Silchar admission to the B.Tech course is made through JoSAA on the basis of the score in JEE Main. For admission to the M.Tech course, candidates have to qualify GATE and participate in CCMT counselling. The NIT Silchar admission to the M.B.A programme is given based on the score in the entrance exam, followed by GD and PI. For the M.Sc. programme, admission is made through CCMN counselling based on the JAM score. NIT Silchar admission to Ph.D courses is given based on the score in written test and/or interview and/or performance in the qualifying examination evaluated by the admission committee. NIT Silchar offers 1 main programme at the undergraduate level – B.Tech. The specialisations are offered in six main engineering disciplines – Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Electronics and Instrumentation and Electronics and Communications.

Eligible candidates have to apply and appear for JEE Main and qualify for the exam.
The qualifying students have to register with JoSSA for participating in the courses where candidates need to select NIT Silchar as their preference for admission.
Once the candidate has been allotted seats, they have to participate in the document verification process and fee payment.

Candidates have to participate in GATE and obtain a valid score.
Based on the marks obtained in the GATE examination, candidates have to submit the NIT Silchar application form.
Candidates will be shortlisted for admission based on seats allocated by the Centralised Counselling for M.Tech.
