It has a wide campus of 365 acres flooded with greenery. It has James Thomson building as the main administrative block situated at the center of the campus. Apart from different departmental blocks & two LHCs(new one is almost completed) and Convocation Hall, it consists of a huge library (MGCL) besides the James Thomson building. In addition to that, it has three play grounds (LBS stadium,MajorDhyan Chandra Stadium and ABN ground) and a swimming pool. Beside these , IITR campus has Volleyball , Basketball,Badminton and Lawn tennis court & has centrally established gym. Also, College has MAC (Multi-Activity Center) which has a Open-Air Theater(OAT) and the central auditorium. Also there is a SAC(Student-Activity Center) building where students can chill out post lectures.
Professors at IITR are well educated and experienced. But since it was recently converted into IIT so some of the Profs. are prevailing from University Of Roorkee instead of coming through HRD ministry. But then also they have good sort of experience. Apart from this, IITR have conventional tools and machinery(especially in mechanical & prod Engg. and Civil Engg).
Placement for CSE and ECE is best among all the branches available at IITR followed by MSM(Applied Mathematics) and Electrical. These branches gets a decent packages with the average package of around 20 lakhs.(around 18 lakhs for electrical). Mechanical department(ME + PI) has also a good record in placement with average package around 12 lakhs. For more information about Placement Statistics and packages offered to them
It is located in the heart of the city Roorkee, uttarakhand. It hardly takes 20 minutes by auto-rickshaw to reach the college from the Railway Station. Just besides the campus is the Bus Stand where you can frequently get the buses going to Rishikesh,Haridwar and Delhi. The nearest Airport is in Dehradun.Due to it's good location, students at IITR enjoys the tourists places like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Nainital, Musssoorie , Chandigarh,Tehri, Shimla, Manali and more such places. No doubt it is value for money
Campus life is chill & enjoyable. Here you will get the highest internet speed among all the colleges. Except for the first one month from the day of joining the college, there is no restrictions on students for leaving their hostel(first one month is restricted for security reasons). So, one can chill out with their friends and can make night out with them!
Mess and cafeteria : Mess at IITR is good I would say. A/C a report(announced in the orientation programme which I attended) food quality is best among all the IITs. Specially the breakfast is good and healthy followed by dinner and lunch. IITR also has a CCD, Subway, Nescafe, 4–5 cafeteria and obviously canteens. Canteens at IITR are quite economical. Best thing about it is that if you feel hungry even at 3 AM then there are TAPRI's open for you all the night.
Good infrastructure which is located in a good environment. The college provides Wi-Fi in the campus and there are many classrooms, labs, and a library. Our college provides campus hostels for both girls and boys. The mess food is good.
The college faculty is highly qualified. They encourage us in the studies and teach very well. They clarify our doubts related to the subjects during exams. They conduct weekly exams and are very friendly with us. They conduct semester exams twice a year.
The percentage of students placed is 70%. The highest package is 25 LPA, and the lowest package is 2 LPA for freshers. Companies such as Information Teach, IBM, Infosys, and more recruit from our course. The course offers internship opportunities.
Good college campus.
The facilities and infrastructure are good. The old hostels of IIT Roorkee is good. And the mess food quality and taste is also good. some canteens' conditions are very nice. IIT Roorkee's medical and sports facilities are good.
The teaching quality of Professors is so good. The course curriculum is relevant to the course. The whole syllabus is relevant to the core fields. It also has a disadvantage that if the student is not interested in core fields. The semester exams' difficulty depends on the subject and professor.
90% students are placed in IIT Roorkee. Top recruiting companies are Tata, ICICI Bank, Indian Bank, and others. Top roles are manager and others. And there are good placements and good career prospects in Tata Group, as well as in companies like BHEL and ONGC.
Good environment of the college..
I have already done my masters from the same college and again I have done PhD from the indian institute of technology Roorkee. There was a library where all students can sit and do study without disturbance.
Academics of Indian institute of technology Roorkee is top notch. All the facilities are educated from top IITs and NIT . They helped us in many ways. . And sometimes we have to do the examination duty in our college.
Almost 100% of students are placed in any field. But in PhD we have to do the thesis and research. And at least one paper should be published in our course. Stipend is provided by the government and according to the projects .
Such a beautiful infrastructure of Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. The facilities and infrastructure in the department are well-designed. Wi-Fi facilities connect labs and classrooms. The library has a wide range of books. The canteen serves Chinese, North Indian, and South Indian cuisine, providing the best food.
The teachers are very helpful here and well qualified. Also, the exam scheme and timetable are made according to students' considerations. In every 4Y course, semester 3/4 is considered very hectic, and it really is, as you have lots of classes and practicals to attend and you may not find even time to work on extra skills, which is very important, especially in these courses.
Almost 100% of students are placed in any field. The highest package is 1.2 crores and the lowest is 16 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Sprinkler, Jio, some Pvt Limited. Some students get offers for data analytics, software development, product management, and some prefer to government jobs.
No doubt campus infrastructure is good Wi-Fi working 24x7 due to LAN, there are two lecture hall complex apj block and garlic block in both block we study In each hostel have stationary shop, canteen (day and night) Food quality in mess is average to eat.
All teachers are well qualified; sometimes they seem overqualified, which makes it difficult for students to get their point, but in reality, they are very helpful, except for a few (which is obvious). The course curriculum is perfect for the current market trend and not very hectic. Students can manage time for self-development as well as academics. Midterm exams are quite easy, whereas endterm exams vary from person to person and course to course as well.
Whoever pursuing PhD wants to make a career in assistant professor or research sector so we don't want placement offers but for btech students In 2022, out of 120 students, 94 were placed in on-campus placements. The highest domestic package offered was INR 1.8 crore. And the average was INR 25–26 lpa. The top recruiting companies were Microsoft, JP Morgan, and Google. About 95% of students get internships at different companies on campus as well as off campus and the major recruiters were Microsoft and Cisco. There were pretty good offers made in the core field, too.
Personal suggestion is make atleast 7.5 cgpa per semester
IIT Roorkee has a very beautiful campus. The college infrasture though very old but is maintained in an awesome way. All the facilities like sports complex, swimming area and laboratories are available in the campus. Hostels are very nice and good.
I have completed my masters of technology in chemical engineering in the year 2021. The experience at the IIT Roorkee of academics has been very great and sweet. Professors are very knowledgeable and have a experience of minimum 5 years.
Almosrt everyone at the IIT roorkee gets a placement from the college. The average placement from chemical engineering branch in the year 2023 is of Rs 13 lakhs per annum and the highest package offered is of rs 52 lakhs per annum.
No doubt campus infrastructure is good Wi-Fi working 24x7 due to LAN, there are two lecture hall complex apj block and garlic block in both block we study In each hostel have stationary shop, canteen (day and night) Food quality in mess is as usual below average but sometimes it's good. Hospital are there and those who interested in sports. Sports facilities are well and good.
Professors are qualified and more knowledgeable. Some pros are helpful and teaching quality is good. In my opinion course is relevant and may be ready for industry also. Before one week for the preparing of exam you can pass and attendance is mandatory (75%).
Placement in our college is between 10 to 15 LPA Many students in my branch are interested in getting a job in non-core rather than core. Few students are interested in core and more than few preparing for competitive examination. College life is enjoyable .
The facilities and infrastructure in the department are well-designed. Wi-Fi facilities connect labs and classrooms. The library has a wide range of books. The canteen serves Chinese, North Indian, and South Indian cuisine, providing the best food.
The teachers are helpful in teaching all concepts, with 5 to 15 years of experience. They teach well, and the course is relevant, making students industry-ready and providing hands-on experience. However, semester exams are challenging to pass.
Percentage of students placed is 69%. The highest package is 26 LPA, and the lowest package is 2.7 LPA for freshers. Companies such as Information Teach, IBM, Infosys, and more recruit from our course. The course offers internship opportunities.
IIT Roorkee has the most beautiful campus in whole India. The main building is the main attraction here but there are many other buildings and infrastructure tgat are also superb. The college has the best facilities available. The hostel rooms are spacious and well maintained.
I am doing Civil engineering from IIT Roorkee. The experience of academics till now is very good and pleasant. The curriculum is something that I think is not updated. The curriculum has old subjects and they are irrelevant now. But that doesn't make any difference.
IIT Roorkee had set an record of whooping placent of Rs 216 lakhs per annum once. Average placement here is around 18-20 lakhs per annum, which differs branch wise. Quality of placements is outstanding. The college is very supportive.
Comparing IIT Roorkee Mechanical and IIT Ropar Mechanical in terms of MNC placements:
IIT Roorkee has a long-established reputation with strong industry ties and typically sees higher placement rates and some very high salary offers in Mechanical. Many top MNCs like Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs visit regularly.
IIT Ropar is newer but growing fast, with good connections to big MNCs too. Their average packages are competitive, especially in core branches, and companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google also recruit here.
But On Bottom line:
For Mechanical specifically, Roorkee generally has a slight edge in MNC placements and packages due to its longer legacy and network. But Ropar is catching up and offers great opportunities with some big names too.
Both are solid choices — if you want a more established brand and higher chances of top MNCs, go Roorkee. If you want to be part of a newer IIT with growing opportunities, Ropar is good too.
Candidates must have completed a B.E./B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from a recognized institute.
A minimum of 60% aggregate marks (or 6.0 CGPA out of 10) is generally required. For SC/ST/PwD candidates, a relaxation of 5% is usually applicable.
A valid GATE score in Mechanical Engineering (ME) is essential for regular admission.
Candidates who have completed their B.Tech from any IIT with a high CGPA (usually above 8.0 or 8.5) may be eligible for direct admission without a GATE score.
For IIT Roorkee and IIT Kanpur, this provision mainly applies to IIT B.Tech graduates.
Through COAP Portal:
After qualifying GATE, candidates must register on the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). Offers for M.Tech admission are communicated through COAP based on GATE scores.
Application to IITs Separately:
Candidates must also apply separately on the official websites of IIT Roorkee and IIT Kanpur for M.Tech programs. Personal, academic, and GATE details must be filled carefully.
Direct admission is mostly offered based on GATE scores without any interviews or written tests for regular M.Tech programs.
For some specializations or research-based M.Tech programs, candidates might be called for a written test or interview.
The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department offers various M.Tech specializations.
High GATE scorers typically get direct admission into the program.
The Mechanical Engineering Department offers a two-year M.Tech program with strong research exposure.
Selection is primarily through GATE scores. In some cases, written tests or interviews may be conducted depending on the specialization.
Admission notifications are usually released around March to April every year.
Required documents include GATE scorecard, academic certificates, identity proof, and category certificates (if applicable).
M.Tech students usually receive a stipend of Rs 12,400 per month under the Ministry of Education norms after GATE qualification.
COAP conducts multiple rounds for offer acceptance, so candidates must regularly check the portal for updates.
Hello,
With a 91.98 percentile in CAT and being a non-engineer fresher from the EWS category , you have a decent chance for IIM Shillong and IIM Raipur , but it will depend on various factors like:
1. If you have strong 10th and 12th marks, it will help.
2. Being a non-engineer can be an advantage since many IIMs give extra points for academic diversity.
3. This increases your chances, as the cutoff for EWS is generally lower than the general category.
4. As a fresher, you might lose some points, but if other factors are strong, it can balance out.
5. Even if you get a call, converting it will depend on your performance in the WAT-PI round .
For IIT Roorkee (DOMS) , your chances are quite high , as their cutoff for EWS candidates is usually around this range.
Hope it helps !
