Institute of Technology, Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, formerly known as Guru Ghasidas University, is a public institute, established by an Act of the State Legislative Assembly of Chhattisgarh and commenced in the year 1997. It is located in Bilaspur, in Chhattisgarh, and is named to honour the great Satnami saint, Guru Ghasidas, who lived in the 19th century.
Since he championed the cause of the downtrodden and struggled to overcome the various social injustices and evils prevalent in the rural and deeply forested parts of Chhattisgarh, this university, which is situated in an economically backward region, is aptly named as it moves towards modernity and progress by providing opportunities for education and higher studies that will provide a stepping stone to its students and propel them into the industrial and commerce-driven world. Central Library: It was established in 1984, and aids the university and faculty meet the academic requirements of the students and research scholars and can accommodate over 500 students at a time. Its vast collection comprises over 1,50,000 books, 5000 e-books and thousands of volumes of scholarly journals and PhD theses. The library makes use of advanced software for easy identification and access.
Health Centre: It provides 27x7 ambulance services and emergency treatment with on-call doctors available at all times. A Medical Officer and assisting staff are posted at this centre and cater to the medical needs of staff, students and residents of the campus. They are well equipped, and the centre hosts an ECG machine as well as a Chemical Blood Analyser.
Computer Centre: It was established in 1990 and provides state-of-the-art machinery to students and faculty, who can easily access the latest versions of hardware and software. The various cells of the university also make use of this equipment for teaching, administration, research and so on. The computer centre contains as many as 80 terminals and is used for office automation, programming as well as computation to assist students. National and international lectures are screened by the computer centre, and it enables practical lessons for the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology. Short term courses are also conducted by the university to increase computer literacy rates.
Hostels: The Institute of Technology, Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya has two hostels which provide separate accommodations for boys and girls. They can comfortably lodge 700 boys and 500 girls. Students are asked to apply for hostel lodging through an application process which works on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Sports Complex: Since sports and physical health play a great role in the development of an individual, the Institute of Technology, Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya has provided a well-equipped physical education centre which includes space for students to play games like Kho-Kho, basketball and volleyball.
Central Placement Cell: It consists of all infrastructure necessary to facilitate the smooth procedure of placement of students into various companies post procuration of the desired degree. It receives many companies in its Seminar Hall and has conference rooms for the use of visiting companies. It enables the students to understand their options and opt for the best possible decisions in their career-making process. They work had to provide adequate training to the students in all aspects of working in the rapidly modernising, industry-driven country.
Auditorium: Known as the Rajat Jayati Sabhaghar, it can host up to 800 patrons and has been the venue for many functions and programs.
Banking: Banking facilities are available on-campus— students may access ATMs of Punjab National Bank, Bank of India, Post Office as well as State Bank of India for their convenience. These ATMs are functional 24 hours a day.
