Admission Process 2021
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University offers admission to various undergraduate, postgraduate, dual degree and doctoral courses. Admission to B.Tech and B.Arch courses will be done on the basis of the marks scored in JEE Main Paper 1 and JEE Main Paper 2 respectively followed by a JoSAA/CSAB counselling. For M.Tech, aspirants have to appear for GATE exam while for M.Sc candidates have to qualify JAM examination. Admission to some other courses will be done through university entrance examination/merit in qualifying examination/written test. The detailed admission processes to all courses are given below:
Admission Process for Undergraduate Courses (B.Tech/B.Arch):
- For B.Tech, candidates should qualify Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main).
- Eligible candidates should register and fill an online application form for the counselling.
- Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for JOSAA/CSAB counselling process.
- Candidates who have not appeared for JEE Main exam will have to appear for an SMVDU Entrance Exam and shortlisted candidates should appear for an online counselling process conducted by the University.
- Based on the JEE Main rank, admission will be done through direct counselling conducted by the University.
- For B.Arch, candidates should quallify Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main Paper - 2).
- Eligible candidates should register and fill an online application form for the counselling.
- Shortlisted candidate will have to appear for JOSAA/CSAB counselling process.
- Candidates with valid NATA score/ JEE Main score, candidates can apply for direct counselling conducted by the University.
- Final admission will be done on the basis of performance in the counselling process and preference will be given to the candidates with valid JEE Main score.
Admission Process for Postgraduate Courses (M.Tech/M.Sc/MA/MBA):
- For M.Tech, eligible candidates should register and fill an online application form for the counselling.
- Shortlisted candidates have to appear for CCMT counselling process.
- Based on the valid GATE score, admission will be done through direct counselling conducted by the University.
- Candidates who have not appeared for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) exam will have to appear for an SMVDU Entrance Exam and shortlisted candidates should appear for an online counselling process conducted by the University.
- For M.Sc, candidates should qualify the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM).
- Eligible candidates should register and fill an online application form for the counselling.
- Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for the counselling process for admission.
- Candidates who have not appeared for JAM exam will have to appear for SMVDU Entrance Exam (SMVDUEE) and shortlisted candidates will have to appear for an online counselling process conducted by the University.
- For MA, candidates should appear for SMVDU Entrance Exam (SMVDUEE) and shortlisted candidates will have to appear for an online counselling process conducted by the University.
- For MBA, candidates should qualify MAT/CMAT/CAT.
- Eligible candidates should register and fill an online application form for the counselling.
- Candidates having valid MAT/CMAT/CAT score should appear for the direct counselling process followed by an essay writing conducted by the University.
- Final admission will be based on the valid MAT/CMAT/CAT score and performance in essay writing.
- Candidates who have not appeared in MAT/CMAT/CAT Exam will have to appear for SMVDU Entrance Exam (SMVDUEE) and shortlisted candidates will have to appear for an online counselling process conducted by the University.
Admission Process for Dual Degree Course:
- Eligible candidates should register and fill an online application form.
- Candidates should appear for SMVDU Entrance Exam (SMVDUEE) and shortlisted candidates will have to appear for an online counselling process conducted by the University.
Admission Process for Doctoral Course (Ph.D):
- Admission to Ph.D will be done on the basis of the performance in written test followed by an interview.
- UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including
JRF)/SLET/GATE/teacher-fellowship/M.Phil qualified candidates are exempted from the written test and will have to appear for an interview only. - Preference will be given to GATE/NET qualified candidates.

There are the following three possible methodologies to secure admission into the M.Tech. program at SMVDU as illustrated below:
- Through CCMT: The admission will be based on Rank as secured by a candidate in CCMT. The counselling for admissions and subsequent allotment of seats shall be done by CCMT.
- Direct Counselling by SMVDU based on valid GATE Score: Seats will also be filled through Direct Counselling to be conducted by the University on the basis of applications received from candidates and allotment of seats will be based on valid GATE score and Interview.
- Through SMVDUEE: To be conducted at various centers in selected cities of the country tentatively as per schedule in Table at Section 4. The online counselling shall be conducted by the University and allotment of seats shall be done on the basis of merit rank order of the candidates in SMVDUEE.
