About IIT Ropar

Set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Department, Government of India, in the year 2008, the Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar (or IIT Ropar) is one of the eight new IITs set up to expand the reach of quality technical education in the country. In NIRF Rankings 2021, the college secured in 19th and 49th ranks in engineering and research categories. The college is recognised as an 'Institute of National Importance' by the Government of India. The campus of the institute covers an area of 500 acres and it has a total of 158 faculty members.

The college offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in various specialisations along with five-year integrated dual degrees. The institute offers a total of 46 courses. IIT Ropar also has a strong collaboration with national and international institutions, namely Aston University UK, Imperial College of London, Simon Fraser University of Canada, and the University of Glasgow Scotland in the UK. IIT Ropar Location

The college is situated at Ropar (also known as Rupnagar) in Punjab. The nearest bus station is Rupnagar Old Bus Stand in Chotta Khera, about 8 kilometres from the campus. The nearest railway station is Rupnagar Railway station, located at about 2kms from the institute. IIT Ropar Placement Process

The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar conducts campus placement drives each year by inviting top-notch companies for both intern and full-time hiring processes. Video conferencing facility is also available at the campus for online interviews. The IIT Ropar placement procedure is carried out in a series of steps by the T&P cell as mentioned below.

Step 1 – The Training and Placement cell sends formal invitations to companies for participation in the IIT Ropar placement drive. Also, essential documents and information like Job Announcement Form (JAF), placement brochure, etc. are sent.

Step 2 – After receiving the information filed in the JAF, the T&P cell will respond via email within two to three working days. Based on the info provided in JAF, campus interview dates are allotted.

Step 3 – A discussion between the placement cell and companies decides the appropriate date for the Pre-Placement Talk (PPT). Students are informed of the PPT date after final confirmation from companies.

Step 4 – The companies visit the Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar campus and carry out the PPT. The participating organisations can also conduct selections for summer internships of the students in their pre-final year.

Step 5 – Based on the job profiles being offered, interested students have to register for the intern or FTE hiring process. The data of registered candidates (Resumes/CVs) is shared with the company for shortlisting.

Step 6 – For final interviews, companies are supposed to send the list of shortlisted candidates through email to the IIT Ropar placement cell before their campus visit.

Step 7 – The companies visit for the on-campus IIT Ropar placements process on the allocated dates. The selection procedure is carried out through Group Discussions (GDs), online tests, personal interviews, aptitude test, technical test, etc.

Step 8 – Finally, the companies declare the result of selections on the same day and present the selected candidates' final list.

The college encourages students from all economic and social backgrounds to receive a well-rounded education. The institute aims to provide all deserving students with equal opportunities to learn and grow. To that end, IIT Ropar offers financial assistance to students in the form of scholarships. IIT Ropar scholarships include remission from tuition fees, exemption from payment of their room rent at the hostel, a monthly allowance, and free mess facilities. At IIT Ropar, students from reserve categories receive a total exemption from tuition fees, a monthly allowance, and exemption from paying hostel room rent. IIT Ropar scholarships are provided to students based on merit. Individuals from economically backward backgrounds can receive up to 100% remission of the tuition fee. If the student fulfils the criteria, they can avail the IIT Ropar fee waivers by submitting the necessary documentation. Institute Free Studentship	Students whose parents’ gross yearly income is less than or equal to Rs. 4.5 lakhs. Scholarship is offered to 10% of the students on the basis of means only.	Tuition fee waived off.
