The academic and sporting structure of the campus is pretty good with world class labs and classrooms. However the hostels are old and needs upgradation. The food hygiene also requires some special attention.
I'm pursuing Msc in Economics (5yr). I found the subject very interesting. The qualifications of the faculty and the curriculum is really good. However, it needs a little bit more improvement when it comes to the research side of economics when compared to other branches of IIT KGP
The quality of placement has really been good, one can check the statistics of the same which is available on the public domain. The median salary is above 10L p.a. The college is really supportive and tries to ensure placements for all.
I believe the campus experience and the association one gets here can't be compared to any other
Kgp is known for its vibrant campus life with facilities and association being extremely good. Talking about emergency situations, it becomes a bit difficult for its rural location.
It's worth it. ;)
All the facilities are just excellent here. It is one of the those oldest IITs, so the college building is just astonishing. The campus is something that a student dreams of. WiFi is also available in hostels but the speed sometimes is not up-to the mark. Labs are well-equipped with latest equipment and is also well-maintained.
Most of the professors here are highly experienced and also well-qualified. Also they are easily approachable & very supportive as well. also, My curriculum is updated according to the recent changes in the course. The teaching makes us job-ready but additional skills should be developed by a student on his/her own.
The placements are pretty excellent. The placement rate is also very good. Internships are also provided before the placement drive in order to provide professional environment to a student before he/she faces the actual industry.
My fee per year costs around INR 1 lac. I think, it is value-for-money, as the placements are also very good. Also, the facilities provided are quite satisfying. I think you'll never feel that your money is not giving you the desired output.
Campus life is the best of them all. If you find a good company, then trust me these 4-5 years at the college are going to be something you'll miss for your whole life. The campus is built in a huge 2100 acres. The campus is very clean and it attracts one's eye because of the tress planted everywhere alongside the college path which seems very pleasant.
These years at IIT Kharagpur are the best of my life. I'm missing my college campus which is currently closed due to COVID-19 pandemic. The college life is very good & one will enjoy it from his/her 1st day at college to the last day of college.
All the facilities are quite upto the mark. Infrastructure is one of the best across India. Only WiFi connectivity is weak in some parts of the campus, but that is not much of an issue as WiFi and LAN availability in hostels are good.
Most of the professors are highly qualified and at the same time, very friendly and easily approachable for any help regarding projects or academics. But again there are few of them who never reply to mails and are not easily approachable and do not answer to queries.
The placements statistics is one of the best across India here, there are over 1000 offers every year in just 6-7 days during placement season in December. The highest package, as most people know is generally INR 1crore+ for some software job abroad.
For those not availing any scholarship, the fees per year is quite a lot, as the tuition fees is INR 1lakh per semester. With this much to pay, one may always have in mind that the facilities we are getting is somewhat short of the money's worth. Nevertheless, all the facilities are satisfactory.
Campus Life is quite exciting, and during the Covid-19 induced lockdown, everyone is missing the campus life badly. With a peer group consisting of top minds of India, and experiencing the facilities in campus with friends is a jolly experience.
The infrastructure is good. The halls of residence are well maintained although there are many issues with the food in many halls but overall it's good. Labs are equipped and the instruments are well maintained.
In my one year experience, academics didn't quite match with the expectations I had but it's pretty nice. It could be better. If I tell you my experience then it's overall nice some professors are really good and some could really get on your nerves. As of now I can say just that, I have to explore it myself
If you work hard and don't lose your focus then J'm sure you can grab a good package doesn't matter if it is in your core branch or any non core. I haven't done much research in this matter but many people talk about how good these placements are.
The fees per semester is around 1.5 lakh which is very high when you consider that it is a premium and government run instituition. What's the point taxes and clearing JEE if we have to give such high fees.
If you find the right people, believe me this could be the best place you spend your 4 or 5 years. This is the place where you can have fun and learn a lot. There are places you could go inside the campus because the campus covers a huge land of 2300 acres and the greenery there is the best thing.
The college infrastructure is good. The college has a very big campus. All the facilities are available. Wifi connection is very good. There are some coverage issues in college campus. The labs are very well equipped.
The faculty is good. The courses and curriculum is obviously updated and good. Yes the course makes you job ready but you can Learn other courses which are not connected to our stream. The placements are open for all.
They are the best. Most of the students get an internship first after the interview in campus and then they get placed. Almost everyone gets placed from the college. For internships studenta are sent in country and outside country as well.
Yes it is.
Nice campus.
Yes.My college has all the necessary infrastructure like well maintained classrooms and laboratories with all the necessary and modern equipments. We have the facilities of wifi and lan.The hostels and mess areas are clean and well maintained.
I am enrolled in a dual degree program in the department of Civil Engineering.Yes my curriculum is updated and includes all the recent developments in my field of Civil Engineering.Yes ,what I am studying and also some extra courses makes me job ready.
As per the past records, the placement is really satisfying and worth the investment. Big companies do visit this college thus offering a very good package and very good exposure to corporate. It's totally worth it
Yes I feel that I am getting the proper education.
The campus life is the best part of my college. The campus is very clean and greenery all around.
We have got some best design labs and everything in order perform research for PHD. Living places are clean and maintainance is too good. Food is hygienic but not tasty but there are lot of restaurants to provide for.
Yes, one of the most senior faculty are present in the campus. And many technical assistants are present to take care of the individuals. The curriculum includes all the courses necessary for a B.Tech course
This year, there were best placements among all IIT's with 5 students above 1 cr. And there were 100% placements. And those students were from various depts including cs, ec and mech and even agriculture. Average packages were above 50 lakhs for ec and around 50 for cs and mnc.
Were are asked to pay around 2.2 lakes per year. And it, acc. to me, is very reasonable for one of top engineering college, as it is very less when compared to the education and facilities provided to us.
This is the best life I am having right now. It is a biggest campus among all IIT'S and oldest.....and perhaps one of the biggest among India. With such a big campus and greenery....it is best, I feel. Its location is not so developed but, we can get every facility needed.
IIT Kharagpur has the largest campus among all IITs, around 2100 acres. It has all the necessary infrastructure including, library, cafeteria, hostel, sport complex, gym, swimming pool, hospital, auditorium, labs, WiFi, and market. Central libraru is one of the finest library in Asia. Apart from canteens, there are several cafes such as CCD, Subways, Mia Amore, Amul Ice-cream parlour, veggies, eggies for night, etc. The campus is clean, well maintained and promote cycling for better health.
I am pursuing Master of City Planning at Department of Architecture and Regional Planning, as my area of interest is development of the city and region. The department secured 1st rank in India. The insitute has all supporting infrastructure for academics such as labs, stationary and printing accessories. All faculty memers are highly qualified and experienced. The course curriculum is as per guided by Institute of Town Planners, India. It helps us to aquire skills essential in the industry.
Almost 98% student are successful in getting the placement of their choice with average salary of 9 lac to 12 lac per annum. The four big firms (EY, Deloitte,PwC, KPMG), Google, accenture are some of the top recruiters. The placement process is easy and convenient. The college has Career Development Centre (CDC) to look after all the work associated with internship and placement.
The fee of the course is around 1 lac per annum, including tution fee, accomodation and mess charges. I feel that the money is worthy as the institute provide quality education with all necessary services. Also, master student get stipend of 12400/- per month so its worthy.
The campus life in IIT KGP is awesome. The campus is huge around 2100 acres and has scenic beauty that great for cycling. The campus is lively, and one can get food at night too. Student can engage in various technical and cultural activites. It has several clubs and societies such as technology club, aqautic society, Literary society, technology fimmaking and photography society, etc. Also Khisitj (Tech fest) and Spring fest (culural) are events that help students for development.
If you want to pursue quality eduacation with healthy life, the institute is the best for it. Also the instiute celebrate diwali in unique way - Illumination. It also has interhall competitions and hall days which are famous.
Yes my college have all the necessary infrastructure, facilities and equipment. All classrooms, laboratories are advance with WiFi connectivity. All living spaces are cleaned and the food is hygienic.
I am studying M.Sc. Phd. Integrated course in Geophysics because IIT is a best place to study. The quality of teaching is very good. Curriculum is updated according to the recent developments. Yes what I study makes me job ready.
The overall college placement is excellent but placement in my course is good. The percentage of students placed is more than 90. The highest and the average salary is also very high. Placement process is easy and pleasant.
Although the course fee is high but i get a lots of exposure in the form of field or paper knowledge. The teaching quality is excellent and all the advance equipment for research is present which makes the money's worth.
This college is having a very large campus so from here only all the excitement starts. One of the India's biggest fest the "Spring Fest" is organised here. The location of this safe and can handle emergencies.
Engineering campus infrastructure is awesome.Central library with 10000+ books & 50+ journals.Systems labs with 300+ systems & with Internet connection.Sports are well maintained.Separate hostels for boys & girls & those are clean & well maintained.
I choose Bachelor of technology in CSE,because i like programming very much & more interest on software field.Quality of Teaching is outstanding.Curriculum is updated with new advanced technologies like Dot net languages.
Quality of placements is excellent. Many Multi-national campus came to our institute for recruitment.More than 70% of students were placed every year.As my seniors said 12 lac per annual is the highest salary for CSE student.
Awesome,very joyful
Self studying is much important to study in this institute.
Hello Aspirant,
According to some recent reports, including one from TOI, IIT Kharagpur has changed its branch change policy, probably blocking or discontinuing the branch change option as we have known it from 2024-25 onward. Although, some official site or previous iteration of the site may still show the previous policy that allows for branch change after the first year based on CGPA. To gain the most accurate and up-to-date information, you would want to look at:
No, you cannot get admission into IIT Kharagpur (IIT KGP) through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE).
IITs, including IIT KGP, accept admissions solely based on scores obtained in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced.
The WBJEE is a separate exam for admission into state-level engineering colleges in West Bengal, not IITs.
GOOD luck!!
Hello,
You have a competitive profile for admission to IIT Kharagpur's M.Tech program with a GATE 2025 score of 630 in Electrical Engineering (EE). Candidates with GATE papers in EE and IN are accepted into the "Instrumentation and Integrated Electronics" program (EE4), and the selection process consists of an interview and the GATE score.
According to prior years, a score of 630 puts you just above the 615–620 general category cutoff range. Therefore, you have a good chance, particularly if you do well during the interview. To increase your chances of getting admitted, sign up for COAP and get well-prepared for the interview.
All the best.
