The infrastructure of this college is so beautiful.Condition and maintenance of classrooms, labs , libraries and sports ground is on time. This college has an adequacy of space for various activities like sports,Cultural Function.Wi fi facility is available on college campus. The living space are clean and the food hygienic.
I am currently pursuing Graduation from this college.Quality of teaching is very good. This college is known for academic excellence and curriculum was updated as per New education policy 2020 That is helpful for us.
The quality of placement of this college is good.Placement facilities are available for only professional courses. The college is supporting their students for every process. As per my knowledge the average package of the students in professional courses is 15 lpa.
Good college. I enjoy my life very well.
Infrastructure is the biggest strength of our college; we have the most organized IIT campus among others. We have a lot of ground to cover to improve our skills in sports and other extracurricular activities. The campus is also green because of the trees around it. Course is all about electronics and communication. The college also has canteens in it and has good eateries. The college is on like 2100 acres so we have a lot of space in the college.
All teachers are helpful; you approach them first and are well qualified. A few teachers are involved in some research. They thought so as well. Yes, the curriculum is relevant for my industry but a little modification is required. Marking is relatively new, so their are no fixed passing criteria. Their are two major exams in a semester, mid-semester and end-semester. Some courses are very tough and some are medium. Overall, the semester is above average.
According to last year's placement history, these are the core companies that visited : 1. Coal India 2. Bharat Aluminum Company Ltd. 3. Damodar Valley Corporation. 4. Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. 5. Tata Steel. 6. Vedanta (Hindustan Zinc Ltd) Vedanta Aluminum Ltd. has a minimum package of 10–12 LPA, while the maximum can be 30–40 LPA.
Better college.
IIT KGP has great infrastructure with all facilities; my department has AC classrooms with modern projectors to teach. Wi-Fi is available on the whole campus, and at the same time, library facilities are also good. We have a central library that has all the useful books. Free bus and medical services are provided inside the campus. The hostel provides all required facilities, including sports, proper electricity supply, furniture, etc. But mess food is below average

The average package was 17.96 lacs, and the median package was 16.50 lacs. Companies like Nestle, Britannia, etc. come every year for placements. Approximately 30 to 40% % students get internships in companies like Nestle, Britannia, etc.
Fully satisfied
When it comes to IIT Kharagpur, you need not worry about infrastructural facilities. We have high-teach classrooms, the latest digital and smart devices are used .Hostels are clean and hygienic. The food quality of mess is also good.
IIT Kharagpur boasts a distinguished faculty comprising experienced educators and accomplished researchers from diverse backgrounds. Faculty members are actively engaged in teaching, research, and consultancy projects, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and technology in their respective fields.
As a student of the top-ranking institute in the country, I can gladly say, the industry-leading companies visit our campus for placement drives. I have seen my seniors to grab high-designed jobs in eminent companies like TCS, Cognizant, Larsen & Toubro and many more. Most of the students get placed every year with good salary package.
Best institute for engineering
Mechanical engineering department of IIT Kharagpur is the largest in the country. Lecture halls are completely air conditioned. Free Wi-Fi is available to all the students registered under the erp portals of the college. Well-equipped labs are present. A centrally located library is there. Talking of the hostel, as it is the oldest IIT in the nation, major hostel infrastructures date back to 80s and 90s. Wi-Fi, library and store facilities are there in hostel but mess food average to adjustable.
I have currently pursuing my doctorate degree in mechanical engineering which is completed till june 2025.My guide is very helpful and supportive.course curriculum is well designed .I am study to being a good assistant professor.
Almost 79 percentage of students get placed under mechanical engineering course in IIT Kharagpur. The highest CTC offered around 74 LPA as of 2022-23 states and minimum around 22 LPA. The average of the course is 19 LPA. Top recruiting companies include jaguar, etc. This data is for bachelors and masters degree in mechanical engineering.
Totally satisfied with placement

awesome placement
The college infrastructure was good. The campus as well as the laboratory and library were also very big. All necessary facilities were available in every department's laboratory. But the food was not good there
The academic curriculum in IIT Kharagpur was very nice. There was some strict rule for attendance but overall both the teacher as well as the quality of teaching was good. The curriculum was based on the recent developments and technological change.
The placement in IIT Kharagpur was very good. Some students got placed outside India as well in big companies like Google, Facebook, Microsoft. Some starts do not join any company and open their own startup. Placement was 100%.
When I studied, the program fees for B.Tech in IIT Kharagpur was less as compared to many Private colleges and also the ROI was very good, as skill development was very high there and also because of excellent placement.
College is in Kharagpur, which was not that much developed. Students have to use bicycle if they want to go anywhere inside the campus. There was one hospital nearby where treatment was free for students.
One of the best college in India with the best infrastructure and facilities. The name IIT is enough and the facilities are super awesome. The college has all the facilities like wifi, grounds, advanced classrooms and well maintained and hygienic hostels.
I am pursuing Bachelor of Technology - Metallurgy and Materials Science. The teaching quality is very awesome. The professors have their full support in developing future leaders and professionals. I am not aware whether the curriculum is updated or not.
The placement quality is also outstanding. Almost everyone(except few) get a placement on-campus. The college is very much supportive in the placement process. The average package received is about 16 lakhs per annum which differs from branch to branch.
IIT Kharagpur campus, being one of the old IIT is spread across 2100 acres with all the amenities. Starting from sports, it has cricket, football ground and a dedicated stadium for athletics along with a swimming pool. It has a total of 21 hostels out of which 16 are for boys and 5 for girls. The campus has all the basic amenities including all the shops within the college campus. All the places are maintained clean and hygienic.
I am from the Electronics and Electrical Engineering department, All the faculties here are of the highest standard as you can expect being in one of the best institutes in the country. Apart from the academic curriculum, here we get the opportunity to explore a lot from peers and connections. This helps us to find our interests and build ourselves accordingly.
In 2023, IIT KGP phase 1 placement drive ended with 1600 job offers. Even though this was a year of recession, we had a decent number of job and internship offers. However the quality of the placements has dropped due to the current market condition and is expected to revive soon.
The tuition fee for a student per semester is 1 lakh rupees, Apart from this the student is expected to pay hostel management and semester fees which may vary from 35k to 40k according to the hall they are allowed. This fee excludes all kind of scholarship that is available to students on a different basis.
Campus life in IIT's are important part of any student's life. They teach a lot about life. The societies, friends, and the atmosphere during fests are always etched in your heart for a lifetime. You can find people roaming around campus during all hours of the day, also there is security everywhere hence is safe for the students.
My college does have all the necessary facilities. There is wifi almost everywhere and there are no connectivity issues. The labs have all the facilities. The library is great. The hostels are okay. The classrooms are big and are air-conditioned. the medical services are great.
I'm studying B-tech in computer science and engineering. The faculty is well qualified and friendly towards students. The fees is a bit high. The courses are well-structured and flexible. Overall I think the academics of IIT Kharagpur is great.
Placements are excellent. 90-95% of all the students get placed every year. Around 350-400 companies come for recruitment, including HFTs, Amazon, Google Sprinklr, etc. A lot of students get internships in good companies.
I'm paying around 9 lakhs. I think the fees is a bit high but worth it. The teaching faculty is great. Many scholarships are provided. I think it is a great value for money though it lies on the expensive side.
My campus life till now has been great. The events here are amazing. They help release stress after exams. The spring fest and the technical fest in January are the best fests and are so fun. They create an energetic atmosphere. The college has a very social environment.
Love it here.
Hello Aspirant,
According to some recent reports, including one from TOI, IIT Kharagpur has changed its branch change policy, probably blocking or discontinuing the branch change option as we have known it from 2024-25 onward. Although, some official site or previous iteration of the site may still show the previous policy that allows for branch change after the first year based on CGPA. To gain the most accurate and up-to-date information, you would want to look at:
No, you cannot get admission into IIT Kharagpur (IIT KGP) through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE).
IITs, including IIT KGP, accept admissions solely based on scores obtained in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced.
The WBJEE is a separate exam for admission into state-level engineering colleges in West Bengal, not IITs.
GOOD luck!!
Hello,
You have a competitive profile for admission to IIT Kharagpur's M.Tech program with a GATE 2025 score of 630 in Electrical Engineering (EE). Candidates with GATE papers in EE and IN are accepted into the "Instrumentation and Integrated Electronics" program (EE4), and the selection process consists of an interview and the GATE score.
According to prior years, a score of 630 puts you just above the 615–620 general category cutoff range. Therefore, you have a good chance, particularly if you do well during the interview. To increase your chances of getting admitted, sign up for COAP and get well-prepared for the interview.
All the best.
