I am complete diploma in mechanical. I would like to join in web development course. What are the basics to enroll in web development?
Yes, you can find a job after doing a web designing course. However, as far as I can tell, you might not be happy with that job. Plus, there’s less scope in the web development industry. Let me explain.
Firstly, as a web designer, your salary starts anywhere between 2–3 LPA
Also, it’s mostly web development agencies (small companies) that hire web designers . Your major task would be to design web pages using Photoshop, Illustrator, and other tools. With these skills the most salary that you can get would be 5 LPA that too after 3–4 years of experience.
Since now there are large number of themes available online for free, most companies simply download or buy them online and integrate directly, instead of hiring a web designer to develop themes for them.
Big companies ( like Flipkart, Zomato, Uber) have ‘product managers’ or UI/UX who use wire framing tools like Invisio etc to build websites. These UI/UX designers use tools like Sketch to create custom designs. The salary of UI/ UX designers reaches up to 5–6 LPA. Their skill set includes a lot more than photoshop and illustrator and knowledge of colour theory.
However, there are few companies that hire UI/ UX designers. Most UI/UX designers are generally freelance and contribute themes to online portals and earn from it. Plus, UI/UX designers are mostly university graduates who have knowledge of customer behaviour that they utilise in their designs.
What should you go for?
If you’re serious about making a career in web development, I would recommend you to go for front-end development.
As a front-end developer, you can earn 4–5 LPA as a starting salary which increases to 5–6 LPA after one year of experience. It’s one of the easiest to learn when it comes to web development. Even if you have basic knowledge of computers you can easily learn front-end development.
You majorly need to know HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/ Jquery and advance frameworks like Angular etc.
It would take anywhere between 3–6 months to learn front-end development. If you’re a fast learner, you can easily learn front-end development in 3 months.
However, simply learning the above skills in front-end development would nopt get you a job. Because companies look for projects a candidate has done before hiring for front-end development. So you need to learn and do projects.
You can follow this simple approach—
Learn the skills required in front-end development
Work on projects and improve your skills
Get hired as front-end developer
There are platforms like Udemy, Udacity, Edureka etc where you can learn front-end development easily.
Since you’re specifically looking to get a job, I would recommend you to use edWisor. Here you can learn front-end development while working on projects, at your own pace. You can easily use these projects in your portfolio to show to companies. So give it a try.
Plus, a lot of companies hire front-end developers through edWisor, based on the projects students do here. So this platform would be even more beneficial for you.
Best of luck!
