Amit, Bhawna, Clare, Deepak, Elena, Fatima and Gurmeet are travelling in an AC bus. Each of them has a different profession of Economist, Dentist, Astronaut, Pharmacist, Lawyer, Journalist and Pomologist. They occupied two window seats, three middle seats and two corner seats. Amit, the Economist is not on the corner seats. The Astronaut is the only other person who occupies the same type of seat as that of Amit. Bhawna and Fatima are not in the middle seat and their professions are Pomologist and Lawyer respectively. Clare is a pharmacist. Gurmeet is neither a journalist nor an Astronaut. Elena occupies the same type of seat as that of the Dentist. [Problem Solving]

Since, Amit is an Economist so others cannot be. Also, Amit is not on the corner seat. Amit and Economist are the only one who sit on same kind of seat (which are two in number) which is clearly not corner seat so they must be at window seat

Bhawna (Pomologist) and Fatima (Lawyer) are not in the middle seat so they must be at corner seats.

  • Clare is a pharmacist.

Gurmeet is neither journalist nor astronaut hence he must be Dentist.

Elena occupies the same seat that of a dentist so she must not be an astronaut so she must be a Journalist and Deepak must be an astronaut who will sit at the window seat and the remaining three must be in the middle seat.

Sample Problem 3: Introducing Ramesh, Neeta said, his brother’s father is the only son of my paternal grandmother. How is Neeta related to Ramesh? [Blood Relation]

a) Daughter b) Sister c) Mother d) Niece e) None of these

Solution:

Trick to solve these questions is backtracking i. e. last information to be executed first.

Neeta’s Grandmother is also the mother of father of Ramesh’s brother which means Neeta and Ramesh are siblings.

So, the answer will be (b).

Sample Problem 4: Rohitash sitting at left most of a row ranks forty ninth from the mid of a row. How many students are there in the class? [Ranking]

A. 97 B. 98 C. 99 D. Cannot be determined

Solution:

Sample-Problem-4_wSWWnnF

Left of Mid = 49

Right of Mid = 49

Total = Left of Mid (49) + Right of Mid (49) + Mid = 99

Therefore, Answer is option C.

Sample Problem 5: Anil starts from a point in a direction from west to east. He walks 20 m and takes a right turn. Now he walks 5m and again takes a left turn. Next, he walks 3 m and takes a right turn. Now he walks 6 m and takes a right turn. He finally stops after walking 18m. In which direction is the end point with respect to the starting point? [Direction Sense]

a) South-east b) South-west c) North d) North-east

e) None of these

Solution: Draw a distance diagram using the given information:

1659006212716

Sample Problem 6: In a certain code, FORENSIC is written as CISNEROF. How is KOLKATA written in that code? [Coding-Decoding]

A. ATAKLOK B. ATKALOK C. ATALKOK D. WEST BENGAL

Solution: Clearly from the code, alphabets are written in the reverse order.

So, the answer is option A.

Sample Problem 7: STATEMENTS: All Paint are Whitewash

Some Whitewash are Green

No Green is Blue

CONCLUSIONS: I) Some Green are Paint

II)Some Whitewash are Blue

III)No Green is Paint

IV)Some Whitewash are not Blue

Conclusions are drawn from given statements. Which of the following follows?

A. I and either II or IV follows B. only I follows

C. only III follows D. either I or III and IV follows
Solution:

Conclusion I: Some Green are Paint: We cannot say it every time but it is a possibility hence can not be a definite conclusion.

Conclusion II: Some Whitewash are Blue: No relation is given between whitewash and blue so we cannot draw this conclusion.

Conclusion III: No Green is Paint: We cannot say it for sure.

Conclusion IV: Some Whitewashes are not Blue: Since some whitewashes are green and green is not blue then certainly there are some whitewashes which are not blue.

So, IV will follow.

Also, from conclusion I and III, If I follow then III will not follow and vice versa.

So, option D will be correct.

Sample Problem 8: How many people are there in the class?

I. There are more than 70 but less than 77 students in the class.

II. There are more than 75 but less than 81 students in the class.

  1. Statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question but statement II alone is not sufficient.

  2. Statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question but statement I alone is not sufficient.

  3. Both statements are required to answer the question.

  4. Both statements together are not sufficient to answer the question.

  5. Either of the statements is sufficient to answer the question.

Solution:

According to the statement I: there can be any number from 72 to 76. So, we can not tell the exact value. Hence statement I alone is not sufficient.

According to the statement II: there can be any number from 76 to 80. So, we cannot tell the exact value. Hence statement II alone is not sufficient.

If we combine both, there we find one unique value which satisfies both the statements. Therefore, option C will be the correct answer as both statements are required.

Sample Problem 9: 4, 8, 18, 22, 40, ?

A. 42 B. 48 C. 49 D. 44

Solution: As we can see:

4 = square of 2+ 0

8 = square of 3 – 1

18 = square of 4 +2

22 = square of 5 – 3

40 = square of 6 + 4

Next term will be square of 7 – 5. Therefore, the answer will be 44.

  1. Non-Verbal Reasoning: All the problems based on visual reasoning like Series, Dices, Mirror images and water images etc come under this section. Candidate must analyse the given pattern and answer accordingly. Sometimes one question can have more than one answer so analysis of options must be done before solving the question. It will help you in solving Non-verbal reasoning.

Sample Problem 10: Directions: Out of the given five figures, find the figure which shows a similar relation as B has with A.

Sample-Problem-10

Solution:

Number of dots outside the polygon is one less than the number of sides in the polygon. Also, the number of sides in the second figure is one more than that in the first figure. And there is no black dot on one side of each block.

In this sense (1) will be the correct answer.

Sample Problem 11: Choose the alternative which is closely resembles the water image of the given combination:

Sample-Problem-11

Solution: In Mirror image lateral inversion takes place whereas in water image vertical inversion takes place.

On analysing the given options, we find that the correct answer will be option B.

Sample Problem 12: Identify the box that is similar to the box formed from the given sheet of paper (X).

Sample-Problem-12

Solution. Try to imagine the figure in 3D.

From the given figure, B and F must be on opposite sides so option (1) is wrong.

E and C must be on opposite sides so option (3) is wrong.

D and A must be on opposite sides so option (4) is wrong.

Therefore, the correct answer must be option (2).

Sample Problem 13: Find out the correct pattern which would appear when the sheet given in the problem figure is folded at the dotted line.

Sample-Problem-13

a. 1

Solution:

If we fold the right side towards the left, we can find the arrow pointed in the opposite direction and joined at the longer edge of the arrow so option (2) will be correct.

Sample Problem 14:

The following questions consist of five figures marked A, B, C, D and E are Problem Figures. Select a figure from answer figures which will continue the series of problem figure:

Sample-Problem-14

Answer:

Figure in A is vertically flipped to get figure in B. Figure in C laterally flipped to get figure in D. Therefore Figure in E should be vertically flipped to get a new figure.

Therefore the answer will be the option (1).

Sample Problem 15:

Directions: Find the figure which does not belong to the group:

Sample-Problem-15

Solution:

Clearly in figure (3), crosses are along the same edge while in others crosses are diagonally opposite.

Therefore, figure (3) is different from others.
