What is the full form of CIC?

CIC is the Central Information Commission. Under the provisions of the right to information act 2005, the central information commission was established. They act on complaints of individuals who cannot submit information requests to the central public or state public information officers. They help maintain transparency in the government systems, Thus keeping a check on corruption, nepotism, oppression, abuse, and misuse of authority. It is an independent body. It looks into complaints and appeals regarding offices, public sector undertakings, and financial institutions under the government and union territories. It consists of the Central Information Commissioner and more than ten Information commissioners.

The powers and functions of CIC are:

• Under reasonable grounds, the commission can order an inquiry into any matter.
• It holds power to keep decisions under secure compliance from the public authority.
• If the public authority does not conform to the provision of any act, the commission has the power to recommend the changes which can be taken for such conformity.
• They have the power to examine any record under the public authority's control.
• The Commission has the power of civil court while inquiring.
• The annual report is submitted to the central government by the commission on the implementation of the provision of any act.
