Im in class 12th and its Mid Year. Im a Non-Med student And My Main Aim is to become an IAS Officer but Im not sure that what should i do after 12th i.e Im 16 yrs old and its nearly 5 yrs left for UPSC exam { as the age limit is from 21 to 32} I have no interest in engineering so pls help :(

Ayush Maurya 16th Dec, 2021

Hello aspirant

As you know so much on the things about age limit and all so you also must be knowing that to crack UPSC exam a candidate must be a graduate from any recognised University doesn't matter in which stream you did your graduation.

As you have mentioned that you don't want to do engineering so no problem you are having lots of choices to do in your graduation.

See you don't want to do engineering then you can do graduation in bachelor of arts which most of the students who want to prepare for UPSC exam and it helps them so much because most of the syllabus coincide with the syllabus of UPSC CSE exam but still if you don't want to do to this graduation you can do some technical things also not engineering but Bachelor of Science which would not be that much Lengthy like engineering and you will be getting a lot of time to prepare for UPSC CSE exam.

Again if you don't find these things helpful you can do anything in whichever you feel interest as academics too matter very much.

Hope it helps!

thank you!

if my date of birth is 2nd August 2003, would I be eligible for giving UPSC exam in 2024 ?

ADITYA KUMAR Student Expert 27th Oct, 2021

Hi

No, you are not eligible for UPSC 2024 with your date of birth on 2nd August 2003

This is because,

You  need to  be at least  21  years  old   to be  eligible as on 1st August 2024 for UPSC 2024 but you fail to fulfil this as you will be 21 years old on 2nd August 2024 with your  date birth i. e after 1st August 2024 and thus not eligible for UPSC 2024

You will become eligible in 2025 i. e for UPSC 2025

For reference, UPSC eligibility  criteria is provided below:-

*******You  must  have  a  bachelor's  degree in any, discipline    from a  recognised university.

*******Minimum  age  limit :-  you  need to  be at least  21  years  old   to be  eligible as on 1st of August of the year of filling the form.

*******Maximum  age  limit :-  32 years , also there's 3  year  relaxation on upper age limit for  obc and of  5 years  for sc/st category.

To help you further,

UPSC Examination pattern is given below:-

Your UPSC civil services examination consists of three stages

*******prelims exam :- it is objective paper and is of qualifying nature , so you just  need to at least qualify it to be eligible for mains examination, the score /marks obtained by you in your prelims examination is not added up or used in your final merit. Your prelims exam consist of 2 papers: -

-) general studies  1

-) general studies II ( csat )

You get 2 hours for each paper

*******Mains exam. :- it is descriptive /written examination . There are a total of 9 papers  which are listed below:-

-) compulsory indian language.

-) english

-) essay

-) general studies I

-) general studies II

-) general studies III

-) general studies IV

-) optional I

-) optional II

The compulsory indian language and english are qualifying in nature . You just need to qualify them. The marks obtained by you in these two papers will not be counted towards merit list.

*******Interview :- After qualifying mains, you have to go through interview round, and it is more of test of your personality rather than knowledge.

I have completed my graducation from ycoum but I have given the entrance exam of ycoum instead of 11th 12th and I have completed graduation on its base then can I eligible for upsc exam ??

Shamik Debnath 26th Oct, 2021

Hiii

Any UGC ensured college graduation endorsement is sufficient to show up for the vast majority of the public authority tests. The YCMOU (fifth open college in india) has been perceived under segment 12 (B) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. Indeed, even you can show up for test when you are in last year of graduation. I'm an understudy at YCMOU and has given two endeavors for mpsc state administration test.

If someone has done graduation by giving prepratory exam in open university, can he give upsc exam?

Sohana Khan 26th Oct, 2021

Hello Aachal,

Hope you are doing well.

Aspirants/candidates who aspire to become an  IAS, IPS or IFS need to appear for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Only those aspirants who register and apply in the prescribed UPSC online form will be allowed to sit in the exam.

Followed by the qualification in the written test, they are qualified for the mains. And on successfully qualifying the mains they are called for an individual interview.

The interview is taken by the top government officials including retired IAS/IPS officers.

How to apply:

  • Visit the official website of UPSC –
  • Click on the Exam Notifications tab.
  • Click on Apply Online link.
  • Click on the link available for Civil Services Part-I registration.
  • Read the application form instructions carefully and click on Yes.
  • Fill in all basic information in the part-I application form
  • Check the preview &  press continue and submit.

Eligibility criteria for the same:

  • age: 21 to 32 years( age relaxation as per category )
  • attempts for each category: 06 ( General and EWS ) ; 09 (OBC) ; SC/ST ( Upto age limit )
  • Indian citizenship

Graduation from any recognized university is the educational qualification.

So, if any aspirant/candidate graduates from an open University, it has to be well recognised and affiliated to well known affiliations.

I hope I'm clear to you.

Ask if you have any further questions.

best wishes ahead.

hii i am a student of class 10 i am in science stream i want to give UPSC exam so it will be okay that i continue with science as a stream as changing streams tend to create problems. and do by bachelor degree

darshita 26th Oct, 2021

Hello,

Yes, definitely you can continue to pursue your science stream if that interest you. But basically as suggested by experts graduation subjects like sociology, social science etc has more advantages than a science subject.

And basic eligibility for UPSC is to have a graduation degree.

  • Any Indian citizen who is a graduate and above the age of 21 can take the exam provided he fulfils all the other eligibility conditions for the UPSC exam. Students from different streams take this exam including science, arts, commerce, engineering, medical, etc.
