Hee main or advanced which should I give?
Hello Aspirant,
If you are seeking admission in engineering courses offered by NITs/IIITs/CFTIs then you can go for the same only on the basis of your JEE-Main score but if you want to get admission in IITs then you should appear for JEE-Advance and secure valid rank.
JEE-Main score is considered for admission to engineering courses in NITs/IIITs/CFTIs/GFTIs and also if you want to appear for JEE-Advance then you should first qualify JEE-Main with the qualifying cut-off. For this year JEE-Main qualifying cut-off is expected around the figures as shown below :-
- Common Rank List (CRL) - 90- 95 Percentile
- GEN-EWS - 70- 75 Percentile
- Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL) - 70- 75 Percentile
- Scheduled Caste (SC) - 50- 55 Percentile
- Scheduled Tribe (ST) - 40- 45 Percentile
- PwD - 1-2 Percentile
Note that in above table it is not the actual cut-off for JEE-Main 2021 but expected on the basis of previous year's analysis. You can check out previous year's cut-off trends from the link given below :-

Good Luck!!
Dear student,
I think your question is "JEE Main or JEE Advanced, which exam you should choose?"
It is not about one out of the these exams and then appear for it.
It has to be done step by step. JEE Main is the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, so if you wish to appear for JEE Advanced, then you must have to qualify in JEE Main exam.
JEE Main exam can be given by anyone unlike JEE Advanced.
To qualify for JEE Advanced exam, you have score above a certain marks or percentile so that you can be among the top students who can be eligible for JEE Advanced. That minimum marks or percentile is called cutoff and you can see the previous years cutoff of JEE Main by going through the link below.

One more major difference between these exams is that you can get NITs, IIITs and GFTIs colleges by getting good rank in JEE Main but to get IIT you have sit in JEE Advanced exam and have to get a good rank in it too.
I hope this information helps you.

All the very best!!
Hi,
If you want to get admission into IITs, then it is mandatorily for you to appear for JEE Advanced. You can only appear for JEE Advanced if you meet the cutoff for JEE Mains exam as per your category. You cannot sit directly for the JEE Advanced Exam. Further, via JEE Mains, you can get admission into NITs, Top private and government engineering colleges accepting the JEE Mains scores. It all depends upon you, whether, you want to just sit for JEE Mains or after clearing JEE Mains, want to go for JEE Advanced too. The main differences between these exams are:
- JEE Mains has a total attempt of three while JEE Advanced has only 2 attempts.
- JEE Mains is conducted in Hindi, English and some other regional languages while JEE Advanced is conducted in Hindi and English only.
- Candidates who have passed class 12 are eligible for JEE Mains while candidates need to have the requisite rank in JEE Mains to appear for the JEE Advanced.
- Similarly, JEE Advanced follows a difference in Exam Pattern and syllabus too, is bit extra.
- Also, if we compare the difficulty level, JEE Mains is considered easier in comparison to JEE Advanced.
So, it all depends whether you want to go for IITs, then you mandatorily needs to sit for JEE Advanced, otherwise, to get into NITs, top private and engineering colleges, JEE Mains is sufficient.
