Hey,my official name is Aditya Singh & i just hate my name name wanted to change it if i change my name officially then i will face any problem while filling any government exam forms like Banking,Ssc,upsc.
It is a common situation for students to want to change their names for personal reasons. You can definitely change your name officially, but doing so while preparing for government exams like SSC, UPSC, or Banking requires you to follow a very specific legal path to avoid rejection during Document Verification (DV)
Your Class 10th marksheet is considered the "Mother Document" for your name and date of birth. Most government forms ( SSC , UPSC ) strictly ask you to fill in your name exactly as it appears on your 10th marksheet. If you fill in a new name that doesn't match your marksheet, your application could be flagged or rejected.
You must complete a Central Gazette Notification. This is the only document that legally "bridges" the gap between your old name (on your marksheet) and your new name.
Mandatory Legal Steps for Name Change
To ensure your new name is accepted by exam boards, you must complete these three steps:
-
Affidavit: Create a name change affidavit on stamp paper, signed by a Notary.
-
Newspaper Ads: Publish a notice in two newspapers (one English and one in your regional language) stating your old name, new name, and address.
-
Gazette Notification (Crucial): Apply to the Department of Publication (Government of India) to have your name change published in the Gazette of India.
-
Note: Most central government exams (like UPSC or SSC) mandate a Gazette notification; a simple affidavit is often not enough for them.
