How is Physical chemistry career in future, job opportunities
Well it depends on whether you actually have had a knack for chemistry or just interested for getting a degree of higher level. Still I will say every detail I personally know in this field (M.SC Chemistry).
Let's start from the best.
Prepare for GRE and TOEFL/IELETS (English proficiency tests), have at least 3 recommendation letters from any college/university professors and apply for Ph.D in abroad. You will get a handsome amount of stripend of foreign currency (whose Indian value will be much more). At the same time, your Ph.D can be done in 3 years approximately; needless to say you will have good reputation after coming back to India.
Clear JRF in CSIR-NET that is conducted in every 6 months in India. You will then get Ph.D position easily with stripend equal to a state government’s job, Rs25,000 minimum. If you can pursue Ph.D from CSIR institutes, then stripend is much more higher.
Clear Lecturership (not JRF) of NET exam mentioned in the above point. You will then apply for assistant professor’s job in any college. NET’s score can also fetch you good companies’ job.
Clear GATE exam that is conducted once in year. GATE’s score will allow you to get Ph.D from IITs and some other universities. You can also get many central government’s job using GATE’s score. One such example is DRDO. Reputed private companies also recruit using GATE’s score like ONGC. Starting salary is minimum Rs50,000 pr month.
Apply for project in any college, university or research centre. You can easily find one; however the stripend amounts will vary. You may also apply in the university where you just finished your M.SC. Just stay for 1 year minimum; better to stay for 3 years. Try to clear NET and/or GATE in the meantime. Even if NET/GATE is not cleared, you can show the Lab experience of (1-3) years in any company to get recruited.
Do B.Ed after M.Sc. Then you can apply for teaching posts in private and/or government schools. With number of students doing B.Ed after after M.Sc being very less, chances of getting job in this sector is comparatively easier.
Apply for good private research companies that recruit M.SC candidates. Example : Dr. Reddy’s lab, Sun Pharma, Ranbaxy, etc. If you are not interested in research works, still there are a lot of good private companies like Asian paints Ltd which recruits Chemistry post graduates (and MBA candidates too) for the post of “Production Officer” in their manufacturing units. Though it's paint manufacturing, your 90% of the work will be work deployment, it's planning and managing labourers and contractors.
Prepare for UPSC, SSC, railway or Bank jobs. These are government jobs with very high salary, but competition is damn high.
Apply for coaching institutes like Pathfinder, FITJEE, Akash institute, Resonance institute, etc that give very high salary to teach and prepare students for JEE exam.
Start a tuition/coaching centre near your home and teach Chemistry to secondary and senior secondary students. Best thing is that you don't have to pay any Income tax as mostly you will get your money in cash. (Note: Later you may have to register your coaching centre if it earns a decent income; then you will have to pay GST).
Share your knowledge of chemistry by writing blogs, Facebook pages and also on Quora if you are passionate about your subject. The more knowledge you share, the more you can build knowledge by doing research from your own side. This will surely help you later
