Hello Aspirant,
JEE for engineering consists of 2 exams. JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. Only JEE Mains pass out candidates are eligible for sitting in JEE Advanced.
Through JEE Mains one can get NITs, IIITs, CFITs and other private and government Institutes. A candidate can appear for JEE Mains 6 times in his/her lifetime. 2 attempts are given per year for 3 consecutive year starting the year you're in 12th standard.
Through JEE Advanced one can get admission in IIST and several IITs. A candidate can give JEE Advanced 2 times in his/her lifetime. Once per year for 2 consecutive years starting the year you're appearing in 12th standard.
The syllabus for JEE includes the combined syllabus of 11th and 12th standard.
