I am a first year engg student can i give up on engg and peruse law by giving CLAT or MH CET Law? What is good score to get top law college?
Dear Tejas ,
It's good to have such worries. You know my friend there are losts and losts of people whoc don't disclose their feelings, the subjects which they are comfortable with, their career plans. You should be happy that at least you know what bothers you. Great!
But before answering your doubts, can you answer my one question, "What made you choose an Engineering programme in it's first place? Friends/ Family or anything else?" Please do answer mine as I can help you further.
Now, let me relate you my story, when I was in Class 8th, I wished to be a Scientist, when I came in 10th, I began thinking of joining Defense Services. I appeared for the test, qualified it and returned thrice, even while pursuing Bachelors in Mass Communications.
So you see, the preerences change and it'll change but most importantly it should be you taking the decisions and if you feel that X is the right think, go for it, do it, that's all.
If you feel to go for CLAT, just fill the form - https://law.careers360.com/articles/clat-application-form
But don't give up on Engineering, as it's your first year only. Stick with it. Once you qualify CLAT and get a good NLU, go for that and if you couldn't, yet you have an Engineering under your feet.
It's always worth to have a bird in hand, while you aim for two in the bush.
The only thing which makes some papers difficult is your interest for the subject. Once you start loving it, it becomes easy. I'll tell you one more story but you first answer my question.
All the best!
And please ask questions as it's very good habit.
Thank you.
I did my graduation in Electronics and I don't have the slightest idea WHY. And even after realising that it wasn't quite my thing, I continued. I shouldn't have.
However, there have been occasions when my hunch hasn't been right. After my graduation, I cracked the entrance of IIMC and DU LLB, I opted for Journalism at IIMC but after working for 3-4 years, I returend to pursue LLB because the subject of law.
so try to be as sure as you possibly can before giving up Engineering and opting law. Be Sure that you don't want to pursue Engg and be even more sure that you want to pursue Law.
Having philosophised a lot, and coming to your question, YES you can quit engineering and take CLAT or MHCET or any other entrance exam of any other university/institute offerinng 5 year integrated law program.
Now, 'top law colleges' is a very subjective term and since not all 'top law colleges' accept the same score, a good score for one college may not even be considered by the other college. Please check out this link - https://law.careers360.com/colleges/ranking to get a picture of what I am talking about. See what colleges interests you and which entrance exam score do they consider. Once you have figured out that, feel free to come back and ask more.
However, to give you a very broad idea, the predictions for this year to get into top NLUs are - a score of anywhere between 125 - 148 out of 200 marks in CLAT.
all the best
