I m Kurmi according to caste am i applicable for Backward classes??? and please explain is EBC based on income. below 8 lakh annum.
Hello,
In India, the Kurmi caste is generally considered a backward class, but the specific classification may vary depending on the state or region you belong to.
*National Level:*
At the national level, Kurmi is listed as an Other Backward Class (OBC) in the Central List of OBCs, which is maintained by the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC). This classification makes Kurmi community eligible for reservations and benefits under the OBC category.
*State Level:*
However, the classification may differ across states. Some states may have their own lists of backward classes, and Kurmi might be classified differently. For example:
- In Bihar, Kurmi is classified as an Extremely Backward Class (EBC).
- In Uttar Pradesh, Kurmi is classified as an OBC.
- In Jharkhand, Kurmi is classified as an OBC.
*EBC (Extremely Backward Class) and Income Criterion:*
EBC is a sub-category within the OBCs, and its criteria vary across states. While income is not the sole criterion for EBC classification, some states consider income as one of the factors.
In Bihar, for instance, EBC status is determined based on factors like social, educational, and economic backwardness. The income limit of 8 lakh per annum is indeed considered for EBC classification in Bihar, but it's not the only factor.
