Hello there!
Greetings!
Actually the term virus was coined by the Dutch microbiologist Martinus Beijerinck.
In 1892, Dmitry Ivanovsky used one of the filters from infected tobacco plant to show that sap from a diseased tobacco plant remained infectious to healthy tobacco plants despite having been filtered. Martinus Beijerinck called the filtered, infectious substance a "virus" and this discovery is considered to be the beginning of virology.
So the term virus was coined by the Dutch microbiologist Martinus Beijerinck.
Thankyou

Im confused because in ncert it says ivanowsky gave the name virus and in MTG biology book it says Pasteur is the one who gave the name virus and on internet it says beijerinick
Hello there!
Greetings!
The term virus was coined by the Dutch microbiologist, Martinus Willem Beijerinck in the year 1897. It is derived from Latin, which means poison or venomous substance.
You can check the same in class 11 ncert book in chapter 2 , it's clearly written that Beijerinck called the fluid as contagium vivum fluidum( which mean infectious living fluid in latin ).
thankyou
