Is studying law at punjabi university patiala worth in terms of placements??
Dear Priyanka!
From the very beginning the Law programmes and institutes were not evaluated on their placement records and neither they were honing their students in that way so that they get placed in corporate jobs. They were imparting law education in traditional way where more emphasis was on theoretical aspect.
The Law education domain witnessed a paradigm shift in the manner of imparting education with the establishment of first NLU of India i.e. NLSIU Bangalore in 1987 which runs five-year law degree model proposed and implemented by the Bar Council of India. Final products of NLUs, the graduating students, were far more capable and started getting placement from corporate sector and law firms. Soon this model gain popularity and now there are 19 NLUs across the nation. These Law institutes were meant to nurture and train capable lawyers and Judges to increase the efficiency level of Indian Judiciary system. Private sector found these young Law graduates more suitable to their needs. So, getting placed in prestigious organizations with hefty pay packages is a norm for the students of these institutes.
Many Universities and colleges also replicated this five-year law degree model and started programmes in this line. As far as Punjabi University, Patiala is concerned it got its Department of Law in 1965, almost 52 years back, which offers traditional 3-year LLB course. It also started Punjab School of Law which offers 5 year Integrated BA LLB programme. NAAC team accredited PU, Patiala with A grade for its overall performance. This grade assures the quality of education being imparted by the university.
As far as placement is concerned, it’ll depend on various aspects such as level of knowledge, hard and soft skills, competency level and how you project yourself apart from brand value of your institute. All these are very important aspects to get placed. All in all, though one can’t say that these Law programmes of Punjabi University, Patiala are at par with NLUs when it comes to placement but these are value for money programmes.
I hope it helps!
