What was the procedure for getting admission in IIT colleges
Hello Mohit,
Firstly for procuring admission to the IIT or Indian Institute of Technology, colleges, an examination we call as IIT-JEE or Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination is to be given.
Now initially the student must pay his/her 10+2 or equivalent examination with at least a percentile of 75% marke in case of general quota while for SC/ST the percentile is 65% with a 10% relaxation. The subjects should necessarily include physics, chemistry and mathematics.
After this the student must sit for the entrance exam which is in two stages. JEE mains, after qualifying for which the student must sit for the JEE advance examination. Now to be eligible for the JEE advance the student souls be amongst the top 2,24,000 candidates that have applied for the examination.
After obtaining the required cutoff for the appropriate colleges, the students are called for counselling in case they obtain the required result. They can then opt for their college of choice. There are certain extra requirements in certain courses that need to be fulfilled for example :
- in mining engineering or related courses the applicant should not suffer from colour blindness and for which a medical certificate is to be provided as proof.
- similarly for mining engineering the visual related criteria is strictly fixed.
The student can give the JEE examination two times in a row consecutively, considering he/she does not make it the first time.
Hope this helped.
All the best!
