UJALA Full Form

What is the full form of UJALA?

UJALA stands for Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All. This scheme was launched in May 2015 by the Indian government and it is also known as the Led based Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme.

This scheme was developed to promote Energy Efficiency in all households. It is usually a joint project that is led by the government of India's public sector undertakings and the union Ministry of powers Energy Efficiency service Limited. It was developed because if we talk about an ordinary bulb then it uses the energy very inefficiently. It just converts 5% of the electricity input to the output light. So an efficient light emitting diode was developed that consumes only 1/10 of the energy and provides better light output.

Light Emitting diodes were too costly so a scheme called UJALA was developed which developed LEDs at a very effective price and they were less costly. Thus this scheme was called as Unnat Jyoti by affordable LEDs for All.

What are the documents to be submitted to get LED bulbs?

Some of the documents that are demanded by government to get the LEDs bulb are:-

• First requirement is the photocopy of the latest electricity bill that is paid by you.

• Government also need a copy of photo ID proof ( it can be aadhar card or driving license)

• Photocopy of residential proof is also required.

• Cash advance is also necessary for taking the LEDs.

Objectives of UJALA scheme :-

• The first objective of this scheme is to promote the efficient use of energy for all the people and it includes its consumption and also the saving of electricity so that less bills are incurred.

• It is the world's largest program till now.

• It aims to promote the efficient use of electricity and energy at the domestic level.

• This scheme enhances the awareness of the consumer who is consuming the light so that it uses the energy efficient appliances and also reduces the high initial cost of the appliances.

• This scheme also led to a development at LED's bulbs would be distributed by the electricity Distribution Company at subsidized rates to every customer who has a metered connection.

Development of UJALA scheme

The UJALA scheme was successfully developed in terms of investment and also in terms of risk factors .

There are many results that put forward by UJALA scheme :-

• They replace 200 million ordinary light bulbs with LED bulbs.

• They also led to the development of load reduction of 5000 MW.

• They reduce the emission that is led by greenhouse gasses by an amount of 79 million tons of carbon dioxide.

Overall Target of UJALA bulb :-

• Total number of LEDs lights to be replaced in 3 years was estimated to be 770 million.

• The total annual energy saving was estimated to be about 105 billion kilowatt hours.

• The total reduction in the peak load was about 20,000 megawatt.
