• Candidates might need to qualify a national entrance examination for getting admissions to IISER Berhampur. 
• A valid National level examination, such as National Eligibility Test (NET), GATE, UGC-JRF, CSIR-JRF, DBT (JRF A category), ICMR (JRF category I), NET-LS, INSPIRE-Ph.D., Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship, JGEEBILS, or any other recognized score, is mandatory.

1. Students must have a qualification certificate in any of the either tests-

• CSIR/UGC-LS/JRF/INSPIRE PhD Fellowships/GATE or,
• Any other National Fellowship

2. Students will be selected to the Ph.D programme based on their performance in the interview, which will be conducted by the selection committee once eligible candidates are shortlisted.

Note: The interviews typically will be held in two sessions, one during the summer session (May - June), and another during winter (November - December).

Prospective candidates are required to hold a postgraduate degree (M.S./M.Sc./M.Tech./MBBS) in a discipline relevant to their chosen Ph.D. program.

• Students with a minimum 55% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; with all subjects) or CGPA 6.0 on a 10-point scale in master’s degree in any branch of Science: Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Biology or ME/M.Tech or any equivalent degree.
• Candidates with BE/B.Tech degree with a minimum 60% marks in aggregate (overall percentage; not only in majoring subject) or a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale can also apply.
