Eligibility Criteria
The four-year B.Tech Marine Engineering course is a course leading to the Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency, awarded by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, after 6 months of sea service, enabling the cadets to become Marine Engineers on board Merchant ships anywhere in the world.
This course is strictly residential.
Entry Requirements:
Academic Standards: A pass in 10+ 2 or its equivalent examination with a minimum 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics group, and at least 50% in English at 10th or 12th standard.
Age:
17 to 25 years
SC/ST: Relaxable as per Government guidelines.
Physical and Medical Standards
Medically fit as per the standards set by merchant shipping Medical Examination Rules, 2000 as amended from time to time.
Eye Sight:
Distance vision (unaided) 0.5 (values given in Snellen Decimal Notation) (6/12) in each eye or 0.67 (values given in Snellen Decimal Notation). (6/9) in the better eye and 0.33 (Values given in Snellen Decimal Notation) and (6/18) in the other eye. Normal color vision
A pass in the HSC (Academic) or its equivalent with a minimum average percentage in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together as given below: General Category50%, Backward Class including Backward Class Muslim 45%, MBC and DNC 40%, SC/SCA/ST 40%
A pass in any one of the HSC (Vocational subject) with any one of the Engineering related subjects namely Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry with a minimum average percentage put together as given below: General Category50%, Backward Class including Backward Class Muslim 45%, MBC and DNC 40%, SC/SCA/ST 40%
For Lateral Entry Admissions:
Diploma Candidates - A pass with prescribed minimum eligibility marks in any one of the Diploma in an appropriate branch of Engineering / Technology of the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Tamil Nadu / equivalent prescribed for admission to the Degree Course.
B.Sc. Candidates - A pass with prescribed minimum eligibility marks in any recognized Bachelor’s Degree in Science of minimum 3 years duration with 10+2+3 years pattern and studied core Mathematics as one of the subjects at degree level.
