Passed 10th Std./ SSC examination. Obtained at least 35% marks in the qualifying examination.

1st year Through JEXPO conducted by WBSCT&VE&SD Criteria they were Passed in Madhyamik or equivalent Xth standard examination (with Physical Science/Science & Mathematics) with minimum 35 % marks in aggregate. Appearing candidates are also eligible to apply. Age Not less than 15 years as of 1st July of the year of examination.

2nd year Through VOCLET conducted by WBSCT&VE&SD Criteria Must have passed or appeared the (10+2) Examination of the West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development (Vocational Education Division) (erstwhile, West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education & Training) or having passed 2 year ITI plus Madhyamik or equivalent passed. It appears ITI candidates are not eligible for VOCLET. ITI trades must be of continuous 2 years duration and a single certificate should mention that. Candidates having passed vocational courses from Councils/Boards other than WBSCT&VE&SD (VED) (erstwhile, WBSCVE&T) are not eligible—there is no age limit.
