Admission is made through Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (B.C.E.C.E.) conducted by Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board.  

The Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB) conducts the entrance test in two stages. The first stage is the screening test. The screened candidates appear in the main examination (second stage). Based on the Merit List of the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (2nd stage), successful candidates have to go through counselling (third stage). For further details, see the BCECE site. For lateral entry in the second year, one must have passed a Diploma in engineering/B.Sc. and should be on the merit list of BCECE(LE).

The minimum academic qualification for admission through an entrance examination is a pass in the final examination of the Intermediate, 10+2 system or its equivalent. Those appearing in the Intermediate final or equivalent examination may also appear in the entrance examination for consideration of provisional admission. All provisional admissions will stand cancelled, if proof of having passed the qualifying examination(Intermediate or equivalent) is not submitted to the institute at the time of counseling.

Passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subjects/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Informatics Practices/ Agriculture/ Engineering Graphics/ Business Studies. Obtained at least 45% marks (40% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the above subjects taken together. OR Passed Diploma (in Engineering and Technology) examination with at least 45% marks (40% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) subject to vacancies in the First Year, in case the vacancies at lateral entry are exhausted.
