Admission for the First-year course is open to students who have passed the Two years Pre-University Examination (Science) conducted by the Karnataka State Pre-University board.

The Candidate should have 10+2 the Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E), I.C.S.E. with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as optional subjects and English as the subject of study.
OR
Those who have passed any other examinations recognized by VTU as equivalent thereto. The candidate should have secured a minimum of 45% Marks aggregate in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/Electronics/Biology/Computer Science in the Second Year Pre-University Examination, or at the end of the 12th Year Public Examination.
OR
The B.Sc. Graduates are also considered eligible for admission to First Year B.E. Course if they have secured a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of subjects.

(iii) Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science

The Candidate should Pass 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subjects/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Informatics Practices/ Agriculture/ Engineering Graphics/ Business Studies. They have obtained at least 45% marks (40% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the above subjects taken together. OR Passed Diploma (in Engineering and Technology) examination with at least 45% marks (40% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) subject to vacancies in the First Year, in case the vacancies at lateral entry are exhausted.
