There are the following three possible methodologies to secure admission into the M.Tech. program at SMVDU as illustrated below:

• Through CCMT: The admission will be based on Rank as secured by a candidate in CCMT. The counselling for admissions and subsequent allotment of seats shall be done by CCMT. 
• Direct Counselling by SMVDU based on valid GATE Score: Seats will also be filled through Direct Counselling to be conducted by the University on the basis of applications received from candidates and allotment of seats will be based on valid GATE score and Interview. 
• Through SMVDUEE: To be conducted at various centers in selected cities of the country tentatively as per schedule in Table at Section 4. The online counselling shall be conducted by the University and allotment of seats shall be done on the basis of merit rank order of the candidates in SMVDUEE.

Admission to the first year professional courses (Engineering and biology based courses) offered in Government and private colleges in the U.T. of Puducherry is done through Centralized Admission Committee (CENTAC), constituted by the Government of Puducherry every academic year.

Lateral Entry- Admission to second year B.Tech. courses in PEC for the diploma holders is done through Centralized Admission Committee (CENTAC-LE), constituted by the Government of Puducherry every academic year.

A candidate must have passed the B.E./ B.Tech. with at least 50% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA in Mechanical/ Production/ Industrial Engineering discipline from a recognized University/Institute.

The Higher Secondary Examination of the (10+2) curriculum (Academic Stream) prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu or any other examination equivalent there to with minimum of 45% marks (a mere pass for OBC and SC/ST candidates) in aggregate of subjects – Mathematics, Physics and any one of the following optional subjects: Chemistry / Biotechnology/ Computer Science / Biology (Botany & Zoology) or an Examination of any University or Authority recognized by the Executive Council of the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto.
