Candidates for admission to the first semester of the 8 semester B.Tech. Degree programme should be required to have passed:

The Higher Secondary Examination of the (10+2) curriculum (Academic Stream) prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu or any other examination equivalent there to with minimum of 45% marks (a mere pass for OBC and SC /ST candidates) in aggregate of subjects – Mathematics, Physics and any one of the following optional subjects: Chemistry / Biotechnology/ Computer Science / Biology (Botany & Zoology) or an Examination of any University or Authority recognize d by the Executive Council of the Pondicherry University as equivalent thereto.

For Lateral entry in to third semester of the eight semester B.Tech programme:

The minimum qualification for admission is a pass in three year diploma or four year sandwich diploma course in engineering / technology with a minimum of 60 % marks  (50% marks for OBC and a mere pass for SC/ST candidates) in aggregate in the subjects covered from 3 rd to final semester or a pass in any B.Sc. course with mathematics as one of the subjects of study with a minimum of 60 % marks (50% m arks for OBC and a mere pass for SC/ST candidates) in aggregate in main and ancillary subjects excluding language subjects. The list of diploma programs approved for admission for each of the degree programs is given in Annexure A.

Age Limit: The candidate should not have completed 21 years of age as on 1 st July of the academic year under consideration. For Lateral Entry admission to second year of degree programme, candidates should not have completed 24 years as on 1 st July of the academic year under consideration. In the case of SC/ ST candidates, the age limit is relaxable by 3 years for both the cases.

The basic qualification for eligibility for admission t o B.E. program s is two year Pre-University or 12th Standard or equivalent examination (hereinafter referred to as the Qualifying Examination or Q.E ). The candidate should have taken Physics and Mathematics as compulsory course s along with Chemistry / Biotechnology / Computer Science / Biology / Electronics as optional course s and English as one of the languages of study in the Q .E. Further, the candidate should have passed the Q .E with an aggregate minimum of 45% marks in the optional course s in the Q.E (40% of marks in Q.E in case of SC, ST & OBC Category candidates) for eligibility . The marks obtained by the candidate in Biotechnology / Computer Science / Biology / Electronics in the Q.E., will be considered in place of Chemistry, only for the purpose of determination of eligibility and not for the purpose of determination of rank, in respect of Engineering programme.
