How can I get admission in Diploma to degree(B.Tech) in BITS Pilani Hyderabad? What is the admission process for diploma degree holders?

Rajeswari 14th Jun, 2025

Hi Rudra Viroja,

Admission to B.Tech programs at BITS Pilani Hyderabad, including those for students with a diploma, is primarily through BITSAT i.e. BITS Admission Test. There is no direct lateral entry into the second year for diploma holders. Candidates must qualify in BITSAT and meet the minimum eligibility criteria, which includes passing the 12th examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology from a recognized board, with specific marks in each subject and a minimum aggregate.

Admission process includes,

  • Apply online through the official BITS Pilani website.
  • Fill out the application form, upload necessary documents, and pay the application fee.
  • Choose exam centres and dates for BITSAT.
  • Keep login credentials (application number and password) secure.
  • BITSAT is a computer-based test with sections on Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Proficiency, and Logical Reasoning.
  • BITSAT scores are the primary basis for admission to B.Tech. and Diploma programs.
  • Shortlisted candidates based on BITSAT scores participate in the counselling process.
  • Counselling involves selecting preferred branches and campuses based on merit and seat availability.
  • Final selection is based on BITSAT scores, counselling performance, and seat availability.

Question : The value of $\frac{4 \tan ^2 30^{\circ}+\sin ^2 30^{\circ} \cos ^2 45^{\circ}+\sec ^2 48^{\circ}-\cot ^2 42^{\circ}}{\cos 37^{\circ} \sin 53^{\circ}+\sin 37^{\circ} \cos 53^{\circ}+\tan 18^{\circ} \tan 72^{\circ}}$ is:

Option 1: $\frac{35}{48}$

Option 2: $\frac{59}{48}$

Option 3: $\frac{49}{24}$

Option 4: $\frac{35}{24}$

Team Careers360 18th Jan, 2024

Correct Answer: $\frac{59}{48}$

Solution : Given: $\frac{4 \tan ^2 30^{\circ}+\sin ^2 30^{\circ} \cos ^2 45^{\circ}+\sec ^2 48^{\circ}-\cot ^2 42^{\circ}}{\cos 37^{\circ} \sin 53^{\circ}+\sin 37^{\circ} \cos 53^{\circ}+\tan 18^{\circ} \tan 72^{\circ}}$
We know that $\tan 30^{\circ} = \frac{1}{\sqrt{3}}$
$\sin 30^{\circ} = \frac{1}{2}$
$\cos 45^{\circ} = \frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}$
$\cos 37^{\circ} = \cos (90^{\circ} - 53^{\circ}) = \sin 53^{\circ}$
$\sin 37^{\circ} = \sin (90^{\circ} - 53^{\circ}) = \cos 53^{\circ}$
$\tan 18^{\circ} \tan 72^{\circ} = 1$ (since $18^{\circ}$ and $72^{\circ}$ are complementary angles)
Putting the values, we get:
$= \frac{4 (\frac{1}{\sqrt{3}})^2 + (\frac{1}{2})^2 (\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}})^2 + \sec ^2 48^{\circ} - \tan ^2 48^{\circ}}{\sin 53^{\circ} \sin 53^{\circ} + \cos 53^{\circ} \cos 53^{\circ} + 1}$
$= \frac{4 (\frac{1}{3}) + \frac{1}{8} +1}{(\sin ^2 53^{\circ} + \cos ^2 53^{\circ}) + 1}$
Since $\sin ^2 \theta + \cos ^2 \theta = 1$ for any angle $\theta$, the denominator becomes $1 + 1 = 2$.
So, the expression simplifies to:
$=\frac{4 (\frac{1}{3}) + \frac{1}{8} + 1}{2}$
$=\frac{ (\frac{4}{3}) + \frac{1}{8} + 1}{2}$
$=\frac{ (\frac{32+3+24}{24}) }{2}$
$=(\frac{59}{48})$
Hence, the correct answer is $(\frac{59}{48})$.

For Mtech CSE 3rd gen IITs : Tirupati, Jammu, Bhilai, Palakkad, Goa etc. Vs BITs pilani : Hyderabad/Goa Campus Purely based on placements and curriculum and not fees

thakurvishesh1 4th Jul, 2022

See, if you want a secured future and want to get into a high paying job straight out of college, especially for M.Tech, then I would suggest you to go with BITS Pilani Pilani campus.

BITS Pilani has a much higher recognition and alumni base as compared to all the 3rd Gen IITs that you have mentioned. And the developments that have happened in these 3rd Gen IITs have only been on the front of B.Tech.

If you would have asked this question for BTech, then I would have recommended you to take IIT Bhilai over any other college, but if you want to go for M.Tech, then BITS Pilani is the logical choice. All the best!
