When it comes to placements, IGDTUW is better compared to HBTU, but HBTU's students excel in competitve exams like UPSC, GATE, etc. Both the colleges are nearly equal with a good name, so you have to choose which would be more suited for you.

You need to mention category when filling the form and your rank is prepared based on the application form. Most of the colleges do not change category during counseling, you need to provide the name of the college so we can check it for you and let you know.

HBTU will be taking admissions on the basis of JEE-Mains ranking but not through JoSAA.
You will have to visit and register on HBTU's online portal.
Also, only those students who belong to U.P. can take admissions here. Students belonging to other states can only take admission if they have a domicile certificate of U.P.

This year for 2018, Harcourt Butler Technological University will take admission on the basis of JEE MAIN 2018 ranking.
They will have a separate MERIT LIST on the basis of JEE MAIN Score.

In order to be admitted to HBTU, Kanpur for the IT branch, as per the cut off ranks of 2017, you should secure a rank between 13000-14000. Last years cut off rank for IT was 13468.
