In order to become IAS officer you have to complete your graduation first after passing your higher secondary examination.
Then you will have to crack Civil service examination conducted by UPSC.
UPSC takes three examination for civil services. * Preliminary examination * Mains examination * Personal Interview
your rank in final list will decide which post you can get or you have chances of getting your desired job.
For an instance if you look for a general category
then upto 100th rank you can get an ias
than upto 200th rank you can get ips than rest.

In UPSC syllabus there is 26 subjects. In Mains exam candidates is to choose one option subject from the UPSC list of 26 subjects. Each optional subject has 2 papers of 250 marks.

First of all the minimum educational qualification required to take on the IAS exam is graduation. You have to have a degree from a recognized university to attempt the IAS exam conducted by the UPSC every year. So does that mean you start preparing for the IAS exam only
