Pharamcy is one the excellent option if you seek to start your own venture in this field. If you prefer to work (job) in this field then the scope is good in India.
After 12th your child will have to appear for entrances like NEET Ug and other state level exams to get admission in Pharmacy courses at UG level. After 12th, your child will apply for BPharma which is a 4 year course and later if interested can pursue masters in it from India or Abroad.
If the candidate has interest in this field and is aware of the pros and cons then only let him proceed or else at one point of time it can be become uninteresting field for him/her.
Some of the top colleges which provide B Pharma course are:
- National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Mohali

Dear Mr. Adnan,
Pharmaceuticals is an evergreen sector as it serves as the backbone of a country's health. As your son is doing PCB in 10+2, he is eligible for B.Pharm, which is a 4-year course. Our society has a mistaken belief that the only job of a qualified pharamcist is to dispence drugs at medical stores. For dispensing drugs you need only a certificate course. One who does a B.Pharm can work in manufacturing, research, clinical trials or as quality controllers, both in private and public sector, with very good career growth.
Now, takling about eligibility, your son must score at least 50 percent in the 10+2 Board exam. Some universities stipulate 60 percent marks, whereas there are institutions that give admission with even 45 percent.
There is no hard and fast rules regarding entrance tests. Some go by national/state-level exams while there are institute-specific entrances as well. I have come across some institutions that admit students on a first-come-first-serve basis.
The college fee would depend on the instiute he joins. The fee is relatively low at government-run institutes while private players charge more. To put in a very general way, it would be around Rs.3 lakhs at a good private univeristy/college.
Pharma studies ensure good job prospects. One can seek empolyment in various drug, chemical, biotechnology industries or start one's own business. One can also join the industry in production, quality control or marketing.
By becoming a manufacturing chemist, a pharmacist can rise from the position of production supervisor to production manager and vice president of the firm. With industries like cosmetics getting more regulated and new patents coming in, the role for pharmacists is bound to increase.
If your son is academically inclined, he should ideally go for Master's (M.Pharm) follwed by a doctoral program. This will give a big boost to his career prospects.

Please note that the National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research mentioned in the above link admits only Master's and doctoral students. You can try the rest of the colleges depending on your son's score in entrance exam, if needed; location, course fee etc.
Hope this helps you in chosing the right course and institution for your son. Best of luck!
