I am a 2022 graduate in marketing learning data science. I took a year gap for the CAT exam and did not clear it. I don't think there is much demand in the market now for data analysts and too many people are pursuing it. What should I do? what are skills along with it I can learn.
Hi there,
It’s understandable to feel that the number of people learning data science and aiming for analytics roles is increasing, which can make the entry-level market seem a bit crowded. However, the demand for data analysts has not decreased; it has actually increased, especially for individuals who can integrate domain knowledge with data skills.
In fact, your marketing background can be turned into a plus. Companies want to hire people who can interpret data and give business insights rather than just run models or use tools. Positions like marketing analyst, business analyst, or customer insights analyst are still there because these roles require people who understand both the business and the data.
Taking a gap year for CAT preparation is not a big deal either. Employers will be more inclined to focus on your present skills and the value you bring rather than a year taken for preparation.
The most important thing now is to concentrate on gaining practical experience and building the skills that are relevant and will differentiate you, e.g., by doing analytics projects, getting certifications, or doing an internship. To sum up, the field is neither dead nor saturated if you are smart about your positioning. By combining your marketing knowledge with data analytics skills, you can actually become more attractive than a person with only technical expertise.
Feel free to reach out if you have any other queries. Wishing you all the best.
