As you are asking about the scope of BSc IT in India, it means that you are either pursuing BSc IT or you are planning to pursue it.
If you are already a BSc IT student, then get in touch if you need any guidance or have any questions.
But if you are planning to enroll for BSc IT, then STOP. You need to understand the entire BSc IT scenario first.
According to me, BSc IT is better than BE/BTech IT or CS. Far more better.
BSc IT is a professional course while BE/BTech is a traditional engineering degree.
BSc IT is a 3 years course while Engineering is 4 years (You save a year if you go for BSc IT)
As BSc IT is of 3 years, you do not have to study the useless stuff which engineers study in their first year.
When you compare the syllabus of BSc IT with BE/BTech, BSc IT wins. BSc IT syllabus is far more practical and industry oriented while engineering teaches a lot of theory and outdated technologies.
You are more likely to get a job as you have already learned what companies need. Companies will have to give you little training. But will have to give an intense training to an engineering fresher.
You get a lot of free time while you pursue BSc IT. Usually the college is for 6 hours. While, engineering colleges are for 8 hours.
The subjects are practical which makes BSc IT journey a fun ride. You enjoy and learn. You can do internships too.
You pay less fees. I paid around 25 thousand per year for 3 years. (Total - 75000). While the fees for engineering is in range of 60 thousand to 1 lakh 20 thousand per year for 4 years. (Total - 2,50,000 to 4,00,000)
The ROI (return on investment) is better in BSc IT. Whatever you pay, you recover it in 4th year when you start working. An engineering student of your age would be in final year of his/her college during that phase. You would be earning.
There are a lot of other benefits too. Despite of all these good points, I would recommend you not to go for BSc IT. Wondering why?
Let me explain the reason with my own example. I joined TCS at a package of x. An engineering fresher who dont have any industry knowledge and have studied just theory joins TCS with a package 2x (Double the package)
After I completed my first year, despite of getting good ratings and working hard, my package got revised to x + (x/2)
So, if you are good in Maths, you can observe that 2x is greater (x +(x/2))
This means, at present I have 1 year of experience and I work at a package lesser than that of an engineering fresher who just joined our team. Also, when you try to switch, the hike which you get is on the basis of your current package. So, why start with less?
Besides, there are a lot of openings in government and big MNCs for IT. But they require BE/ BTech degree.
If you have to do the same work, then why do at a lesser salary? Do BE/ BTech and do the same work at a much higher salary. Also, we live in a country where degree has more value than skills. Hence, most of the skilled people are working abroad where their skills are valued.
A personal advice - Go for BE / BTech if you need nice designation and salary.
If you are having a strong financial background and you dont care about salary and just love computers than go for BSc IT.
BSc IT is really good to learn but bad to earn. Do BSc IT only if it is fine with you to work on lower salary packages. The overall scope is good. But the salary and designation factor breaks our heart.
Let me know if you have any further queries.
All the best!
