locomotive structure of paramecium
Paramecium is a Protozoan and its body is covered with fine protoplasmic cilia. These cilia are arranged in longitudinal rows serving as locomotive organs. The cilia beat in unison in a particular direction when under the water. If the paramecium has to move forwards, the cilia move in a backward direction with a particular angle. This helps the organism to move backward around an invisible axis. Paramecium generally moves forward travelling in a straight line through the water. But when it comes in contact with an object or a predator, it changes its direction immediately beating in the opposite directions.
