Which sector has more scope mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering?
Hi Shreyas
If I had to give you the difference between mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering , I would say that if we consider Aerospace engineering as a child , then Mechanical engineering is its mother. Aerospace engineering is a specialized branch which has derived from mechanical engineering. Aerospace engineering is the study of design and development of aeroplanes and spacecrafts and is extremely specialised and limited to the aerospace sector. However mechanical engineering covers everything starting from normal everyday objects to power plants to automobiles to rockets . In other words , any man made object has in some way or the other been influenced by mechanical engineering .
Mechanical engineering is one such branch which is taught in almost every engineering colleges in our country. However aerospace engineering is taught only in a few old IITs like Kharagpur , Bombay , Madras , Kanpur , Delhi. A few top private colleges like SRM and Manipal University too offers aerospace engineering course.
Now in terms of placement, there is huge demand for mechanical engineers in both the government as well as private sectors. Mechanical engineers are recruited by various mechanical , automobile ,aerospace , power plants and energy harnessing companies. Mechanical engineers can also go into R&D sector in various research facilities and labs. In government sectors too there are lots of job opportunities for mechanical engineers. Mechanical engineers are in huge demand in various government agencies like ISRO , BARC , DRDO , Indian Oil , HAL etc. However the opportunities for aerospace engineers in our country is very limited. There are lots of opportunities for aerospace engineers abroad in countries like USA , UK , France where the major aerospace companies like Boeing , Airbus etc are based. In India , the opportunities are very limited and only a few government agencies like HAL may recruit aerospace engineers. There are also not many private aerospace companies whose factories are based in India, so the opportunities are less. I hope you will be able to make the right decision and direct yourself towards your desired career goal.
I hope I have been able to answer your query and my best wishes to you fornyour future.
Thanks
In one line I would say Mechanical, Why see almost every manufacturer needs some kind of Mechanical Equipment. It is a core branch of Engineering which has many sub-branches such as automobile, Aviation, Tools. Everywhere You can Find Mechanical engineers. While aerospace is very specific and has limited scope and narrow field so In general you will be offered fewer opportunities compared to Mechanical, one more thing is that You can go to Aviation sector even after Mechanical Engineering but not vice versa.
If you consider Job scenario then almost every Private or Govt Enterprise need Mechanical Engineers, even you can choose this as a subject for civil services main but not the case with other Branch.
